Questions about SYR

Becca

Eternally Confused
I have recently had an episode where someone told me that it is illegal to ship your reptiles through SYR. First, I would like to ask if anyone knows whether this is true or not? Secondly, I would like to know if anyone can maybe tell me how to get certified through FedEx to ship (and how much it will cost me, etc)? I did ship a Corn snake hatchling through SYR. I followed every single word of their guidelines, got my shipping label through them and when I took my package in to the UPS store, I spoke at length with the manager about shipping the Corn. Never once did she say it was illegal or that they wouldn't do it and she even told me that they ship reptiles all the time through SYR. I'd really like to hear people's thoughts here, because I know a lot of you do ship reptiles. Thanks in advance.

There was a huge stink a few months ago about SYR because someone misused it to ship venomous snakes. So they did suspend snake shipments for awhile. Im not really sure what ever happened with it.

A new company called Reptiles Express did pop up though and have had nothing but good reviews from what I have seen so you might want to look into them.

I thought RE had suspended snake shipping now.

Do a search for FedEx Certification- I wrote a good how-to.

Both Ship Your Reptiles and Reptiles Express use UPS as a carrier and as it currently stands with UPS, neither company are allowed to allow any 3rd party shipping of snakes through their accounts. The only current legal method is to get Fedex certified as Nanci has pointed out but there are some definite rules and guidelines you must understand and abide by as well.

Weird. Apparently there is a Reptile Express and a Reptiles Express. I don't know anything about Reptile Express. How confusing.

And yes, Reptile_s_ Express still says they have suspended snake shipping. I have no idea who the other company is.
