Quick Question about Polymer Clay hides

I got 11 (actually 12 but I broke one) hides from the 5# container of crayola air dry. Some are a little bigger.

The other clay I got is Amaco air dry but I can't rol it, I don't know how to use it. It's nothing like the crayola. I guess I need a certain surface and a wooden rolling pin. Has anyone ever used that kind? It's in a box and it was 10# and it was only about $8 but I just can't work with it. Today I need to start painting the hides that are done. I am not good at that but I hope I get them to look fairly nice!
