quick question about rack systems

iv'e kinda looked around here in calgary, and i can't find any "heat tape". i did manage to find some "heat cord" however. was wondering if this will work as well as heat tape. its more round than flat though so it would raise the container up a little at the back unless i propped the whole thing tp with something to just sit above the cord.

short of ordering on the net, i don't think i can get heat tape here

The heat cord or Heat Rope as it is also known will work, but like you said, you will have to prop up the container of your snake. It should work just as well as heat tape, but you might need more of it as it doesn't cover as much surface area under the container. www.beanfarm.com has heat tape and I think they can ship to Canada.

Good luck.

cool. good luck with it. If you need any ideas or advice, there is a large thread about it in Cav's Grotto, and I have built 3 of them now and can give you some great pointers.

thanks pcar

i think ive read just about every word on this darn site lol so ive read lots about rack systems. i have a pretty good idea about what i want... im hoping to find a rheostat at a local hardware store so i can control the temp... but that shouldnt be too hard to find.

ill keep you all posted as the breeding comes closer... and closer...

hehe

The Rehostat might be a little dificult to use to control a rack system, especially if there are any temp changes in your room's ambient air. The rheostat will only provide heat at the setting that you put it. therefore it won't change the amount of power goign to the heating elements if the temps change up or down. This could cause a problem with over or under heating. Your best bet would be to get a proportional thermostat like the Helix unit, Johnson Control Units, or something along those lines. These can be found through www.beanfarm.com also. Good Luck.
