Rapid shed cycle?

ciara

three corns and counting
Just a bit concerned. Tovi shed again today, after shedding just about a week ago. I could only find half his shed, too, which is puzzling because he doesn't appear to have any kind of color/brightness difference that would indicate he only shed half his body for whatever reason. I've examined him closely, he doesn't seem to have any kind of injury or health issue (mites) that could be causing a rapid shed cycle. Should I be extremely concerned, could this just be a fluke, or what?

Just an updage. I fed Tovi today (my yearling, Cleo, refused for the second time, so that's another thing on my mind) and he ate fine. I'm really hoping someone can speak up and help me with this partial shed thing. I am concerned, but unsure what to do about it, if anything. As I said, it doesn't appear that he has stuck shed on him...should I just wait until his next normal shed and see how that goes?

It's a bit confusing, I don't know that it can happen that fast. When he shed (a week and two days ago) did you see the whole shed?
If this is in fact a new shed, can you feel a difference in his skin on the half where he recently shed, as compared to the part that did not recently shed? When my snake clears before shedding her skin feels a bit different, like a plastic coating is the best way I can describe it.

As far as I understand it, it's physiologically impossible for a shed cycle to complete within a week of a previous shed. Is it possible that you missed seeing the partial shed that you recently found? Maybe it was under the substrate, or buried in the viv somewhere and the snake just uncovered it while moving around.

As long as there's no retained skin left on the snake, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Yes, I did. I always carefully check sheds to make sure the tip of the tail is there, as well as they eyecap. Matter of fact, I still have the old shed, as a local educational program has asked for them.
As far as I can tell there's no difference in feel on either part of his body.

You know what, I feel like an idiot. The second piece of the shed was buried...just got done cleaning the tank, as it's feeding day. I'm still not sure about the whole 'rapid shed' thing, but it's possible I missed the old shed for a few days, since I was in and out of town during that time. I feel a lot better.

Thanks for the help, folks! :)
