For just one snake a pair (1.1) should be fine.

A 20 gallon (20 long even better) will do.

Rodent blocks.

About the same as mice but larger which means larger raisins left behind. :grin01:

rats smell alot less than mice. i couldnt stand the mouse smell but the rats only have a light odor...

I had rats as pets and used the pelleted rabbit food for litter. Absorbs really well and keeps the smell down. While I tried the rodent blocks for a while they didnt take to them so i switched to a mix of cheerios, spiral pasta, oatmeal and soy nuts, supplemented with frozen veggie mix or mashed potatoes. Of course since yours are for food, this wont apply but I had my rats live well past the average age.

I would suggest putting rats into a cage rather then a 20 gal tank. They smell more then mice and have all that smell would stink unbearably

Rats don't smell more than mice, but I agree a wire cage is preferable. minimum size for a pair would be 24x12x12 but the bigger the better. Nothing smells as bad as male mouse urine. Rats are also easier to breed as they are easier to introduce, you can change around the colony without having them kill each other like mice do. You can also house males together which isn't too easy with mice.

Main problem is that the adults are too big for corn snakes to eat so once they get to that size you won't have an easy way to feed them off like you can with mice.

They also grow a lot quicker, sometimes too quickly ig you have a small corn snake.

They make awesome pets which can be a problem. Mice are easy to kill off, rats, for me, not so easy. I got a pair of rats to breed last February and I now have about 8 pet rats and only breed them occasionally.
