Rat snake nose rub issues

So I got back from the reptile expo this weekend and came home to this:

I'm already planning on a vet visit so there's no need to jump all over me for that! :p But any help on what to do at home or how to prevent this in the future would be greatly appreciated!
 
I have the same problems with my bairds rats. They are just busy snakes I guess! I have mine in 32qt bins but I think I am going to upgrade to 40qts.

I would put some neosporin on it, but other than that it should heal on its own. Here is what my boy looks like now. And its looked like this for at least 3 years now.

Oh, and dont worry but because of his smooshed nose, you might notice a wheezing type noise, especially when he is about to shed. Its like their nares get squeezed a bit so it sounds like they have an RI.
 
Does you tank have screen sides, or just the top of screen? My snake use to do that a little bit.. but he's stopped now. Your snake must really be wanting to get out bad if he's hurting himself like that. They're probably fine, but are his temps all good? Does he have enough places to hide so he doesn't feel nervous or anxious?

In the mean time you could get a piece of felt and lay it over the top of the cage, and then clip the lid on over the top of that so he can't rub on the screen.. unless you have a sliding screen top, then I'm not sure how to prevent the rubbing.. I would put some neaosporin on that.. without painkillers of course. Maybe put him on newsaper substrate if he isn't already.. that will help keep stuff out of the wound so it doens't get infected.

We have him in a plastic tub with holes drilled into the top, but my hubby has finished sanding them down until they're smooth to the touch now (they weren't before so that may have been the issue)

He has a couple of hides and lots of fake leaves for ground cover and his temps are good, he is also on red rosin paper as a substrate. I've got Neosporin on it already (see post above, I missed yours before I hit reply!)

Okay great! :) I'm sure he's okay, I've never seen this before but seeing Angels's post above makes it seem like everything's okay
 
Yeowch! Poor baby. :C I think I've heard that covering the sides and top of of the enclosure helps, as well as a lot of space.
