Right now I breed 3 female mice to 1 male mouse, usually having to wait 14 days until my baby mice are big enough to cull, my problem is after 14 days I become attached to my snakes food because I've watched it grow...ect.. I know its all corny lol but cmon im a girl :p
My question is, are rat day old pinks the size or about the same as 14 day old baby mice? If so I may switch to breeding rats so I don't become attached to the food, thanks for your help in advance.
 
A day old rat pup is roughly the same size as a fuzzy mouse. and rats are no nearly as stinky as mice. just dont cage them in a cage with galvenized steel. it will stink to high heaven. use a covered metal. often you can find cages at thrift stores super cheap.
 
I breed both rats and mice and always record their age and weight before I feed them to my snakes. In find that a day old rat pinky will weigh about half as much as a 14 day old mouse. A three day old rat will weigh about as much as a 14 day old mouse. That is my experience anyway. I also agree that rats smell less than mice but to me the smell of each one becomes irrelavent once you have a few cages or tubs. Bottom line either way you go they both smell bad, lol.
 
i pesonally think the snakes grow quicker with rats...i might just be psychological but that just what i think. so to say the least i use rats regardless.
