real problems

betterboa

I have a late 2007 blizzard that is having some real troubles.
He seems to only be able to handle 1 pinky. as soon as I make the switch to fuzzies he regurges.

I have given pinkies for 9 months now and no matter what as soon as I try a fuzzy he ends up regurging a few days later????

He looks like he has barely even grown in 9 months?

Any suggestions? should I euthanize???

and how big are these fuzzies we're talking about? are they bigger around than the snake?

p.s. i have an april 07 snow still on pinkies, shes up to 2-4 per feeding depending on pinkie size.

I have tried 2 pinkies which had worked fine in the past. however this week he had 2 and regurged 1 that looked half digested. I have even tried the larger pinks with some color to them and he regurges those as well. Please note too that I do wait 2 weeks after a regurge and my temps are all correct. I have 7 cornsnakes and I know the appropriate meal sizes just seems like this lil guy cannot digest fur for some reason. I guess I will stay with 1 pinkie for another few weeks and than try 2 again.

While you're trying to get round the problem, you could try putting a supplement in his water e.g. Nutribac to help build up gut flora and aid digestion, or Critical Care Formula to give him a boost of nutrients.

I can sympathize with your problem as I have a similar snake. She's an '04 bloodred and still only weighs 175 grams. It has taken forever for her to grow because, like yours, she simply can't handle prey, especially haired prey, that are larger than she is around without regurging. Plus you loose all the time after a regurge by having to go to even smaller prey for a month or more after a regurge. What I had to do was simply keep her on the smaller prey for longer than it seems I should and do a very gradual increase in size. Since I usually have a freezer full of all sizes of pinkies, it wasn't too difficult for me to find hairless ones of just the right sizes, either in singles or multiples, and still be able to increase the total amount of food by mere fractions every few feedings. Since I also raise rats, I was able to switch her from multiple mice pinks to a tiny rat pink, etc. It has just been since last summer that I was able to get her off of multiple rat pinks to mice and rat pups with hair. I thought I might be able to actually start feeding her even more this last month (heck, she's 4 years old now), but she did regurge the medium adult mouse I gave. I have smaller 2 year olds that can easily eat what I gave her. I refuse to give up on her and I hope you do the same with your little one.

Thanks for understanding.
I will defiantly push forward with the little guy and a vet visit is booked!
