Red Musk??

I bought an adult female corn almost 2 weeks ago. I gave her a few days to adjust, she was great, she loved to just hang out on my shoulders. she ate fine for me on sunday night. today when i was going to take her out, she musked and rattled her tail at me. the musk in my milk snakes is yellowish, but her must was the same color as blood (maybe it was blood?) the smell was still there. Does anyone have knowledge about this, what this could signify? if not, i'll take her to the vet this weekend. her eyes are bright, she's a hardy eater, her respirtory sounds fine to me.

Thanks

Julie

Hey, I've noticed that with my female too but it was more of an orangey colour. I am not an expert on this matter and simply thought at the time it was something she had digested whilst on her travels (she escaped for 4 months). Maybe it was musk??

hmm

Was it blood or just the same color?

It if smelled like musk, it most likely was musk.

For those who requested more info:
Corns and other snakes musk when disturbed or when they are upset when being handled sometimes. It is harmless to us, but lets us know the snake is not in the mood for handling. It smells fishy sometimes, a strong smell. Some of my snakes have clear musk, some yellowish, and a couple a bit red. I think it just depends on species and maybe even individuals. :)
