Regurg

Well, I noticed today my snake regurged the meal he had.

I fed him on monday and left him alone for three days. Yesterday we took him out to clean a bit and freshen his water. He was really squirmy and my daughter dropped him. She partially caught him but he still took a bit of a tumble.

I'm pretty worried now and feel terrible for my daughter. The first snake we got was a non eater and died after a few weeks. I really hope that she didn't harm him cause it will really upset her.

I assume the regurg is a direct cause of the fall. But could he have really hurt something internally? My next step will to again leave him totally alone for a while until his sunday feeding. Anything else to look for?

FYI... he weighs 43g and the fuzzies are 5-7. He had no problem getting it down.

If he regurged (probably due to the fall) I would not feed for 10 days from the last feeding, and then feed a prey item half the size of what was regurged, and then work back up to the usual size gradually. I would also cut slits down the back of the mouse for easier digestion.

Snakes can get internal injuries from falling, but unfortunately, there isn't really anything a vet can do about it. You're just going to have to watch him and hope for the best. If he had a soft landing, he's probably okay.

Thanks. I will have to ask my daughter exactly how he landed. I was cleaning out the viv when it happened and my back was turned.

Unfortunately, we have laminate so he didn't land on something soft like carpet. Geez.

Awe, the poor little corn and your poor daughter. Accidents happen, sending lots of positive thoughts that everything's okay.

Good luck with the little guy. Follow Nanci's advice and I think you should be fine. Snakes can be okay after falling from some pretty high areas. I've dropped my baby from about 5 feet up onto carpet before and he was fine. Of course it was onto carpet, but still, 5 feet is a pretty far fall. Just keep an eye on him.
