Spring is here!
I have an adult corn snake we've had for 3 yrs, and just this past weekend my daughter purchased a baby corn. I use repti bark for both. I was wondering how often we should be changing the substrate, I'm sure I don't change it enough....lol.
 
I'd change it out now... and replace it with aspen. ;)

I've had bad experiences with Repti-Bark. It stains the snakes, and half the time it's full of wood lice. I guess it's ok if you have room to freeze it first, and if you don't mind a bunch of dead lice in your snake tanks...

how often would you recommend changing the bedding?
 
about once a month is how often i change my substrate, but, i just had to totally clean my tank because my snake has mites, but i think theyre just about gone. Let this be a lesson, bake your substrate at about 350 fahrenheit for 15-20 mins, to kill any little critters that may be inside the bag of substrate, i froze the stuff i got for almost 2 weeks, but it didnt kill them. Its better to be safe than sorry :cheers:

Good. :) I spot clean a couple of times a week. I do a full clean about once per month, month and a half. But by the time I get to the full clean, I've probably already replaced most of the bedding in my spot cleaning...
 
i hate reptibark. i used to use it for my reptile's tanks and i ended up having to throw it away. the tanks kept getting infested with bugs. i switched to coconut bark and no more bugs.
if you like a dark colored substrate, go with coconut bark.
spot clean often, but you dont need to do a full change of the substrate more than once a month.
 
I also had issues with the Repti-Bark, so glad you changed it out. I got little gnat type bugs. They didn't seem attracted to the snakes at all, but enough of them drowned in the water dish to know it had a problem.
