• Hello!

Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.

Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....

Please be certain that the location field is correctly filled out when you register. All registrations that appear to be bogus will be rejected. Which means that if your location field does NOT match the actual location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected.

Sorry about the strictness of this requirement, but it is necessary to block spammers and scammers at the door as much as possible.

All I'm gonna say is watch yourself over there. The owner admits to reading private and personal messages through the PM system, and there is a group of people that enjoy harrassing individuals that have different opinions. The harrassers also have the owner "in their pocket", and can get away with anything. They hack accounts, create false profiles, and post false accusations about respected members of the herp community, and the owner allows them free range without repercussions.

It can be a great networking tool, but some of the members make it very miserable to truly speak with a free mind. And if they decide they don't like you, for whatever reason, it is only a matter of time before you get banned, and publicly accused of wrongdoing without proof or evidence.

Use it, and enjoy what the site has to offer. Just watch out for people that pose as "friends" and stab you in the back the moment they decide you aren't "worthy". Racial slurs, false accusations and slander, and an owner that allows it can become a GIANT pain in the hindquarters for someone just looking to hangout and have fun...

Chris, the problem is its what you make of it. For me its a site to post pictures. I do not get into any debates or post on the forums. If people will be childish there i will go. i have a few other so called network sites and to be honest, they do not thrill me that much. I do enjoy reptile geeks due to the subject matter but if I stopped posting there, it makes no difference to me.

As i have stated here and at many other places, my goal is education. I find that I can do this much better in person and in public. Here you can only reach like minds and if they are closed off well then you can not reach them.
Now in person, and doing hands on events, I can get people who are terrified of snakes come near me and touch one. To me that matters much more than telling a newb not to co hab. Cause now I have converted some one into thinking snakes are not that bad, who used to fear them.

This is why I like the idea of people joining their local herp society or create one with their local pet shop and get it started. Do educational talks in the city and communicate with the public. That is where its at. :)
there is nothing more enjoyable seeing a small child giggle with excitement when they touch a full grown Burmese python.

I was actually trying to figure out an unbiased, informational posts on this subject, but I can't.....

I don't want to publicly blast anyone. I feel that it is not my place. But if anyone wants to know first hand (with screenshots) about my experience with the owner of Reptile Geeks, feel free to PM me.

With that being said.....The "idea" of Reptile Geeks is great, but I'm not so sure about the practices of the admin.

I haven't heard about the admin's policies that were mentioned, but I see other problems with the site. I don't particularity like the undertones of a popularity contest. I just don't support the list of "top members" or rating photos. :shrugs:

I just read the bulletin about using photos taken/owned by others. THAT kind of thing concerns me. I think that I'm going to electronically 'watermark' all of my photos from now on (basically means that a statement of ownership is added into the information about the file).

I am there also, same screen name. Feel free to add me. I like the concept. I haven't really gotten into the whole forum thing yet, haven't really seen anything that I wanted to post on. I just like the myspace concept in a herp world. Jeff, it's time for you to come on board! http://reptilegeeks.com/WestExHerps

I don't know about the "best" playlist... I don't see anything by the Beastie Boys. ;) Lynard Skynard, Metallica, and Rob Zombie would definitely be on my list too.
I got something a little closer to your liking Vinny......it's only the best genre of music ever made. :grin01:
