[Request] A screen lid for a tank?

Cronsnakes

Got any suggestions on making it? i wanna use a lamp for my snake because it's getting about winter time here and i wanna keep some warm snakes

If they are corn snakes a UTH with a thermostat should suffice during cold temperatures. As long as your environment has a warm and a cool side they should be fine. If it is an aquarium they make screen top lids for various size tanks - just make sure to purchase the locking lid clips that go along with the lids. You can get these supplies at any local pet store or online.

A locking type lid is best with a corn snake because they are masters of escape.

Agreed. A UTH + thermostat will keep the floor at the same temperature, year round. The thermostat adjusts the mat to take account of cooler ambient temps. IMHO you don't need to heat the air above the ground surface as the snakes aren't up there.

Its just the cold side is below 60 and the warm side is 80+ it's just the owner before didn't have a UTH and just had a light but it was a custom tank so it was fine it's just shes used to basking, less of the UTH dealio.

If he was using a light her basking ws her way of h keeping warm I would swith to a uth and thermostat personally she will adapt to it just fine if u want to get the cool side a bit warmer then use the light on that side I would get the adjustable light hanger so u can aj djuts the height there by adjust the temp on that side by raising and lowering it just the way I would do it personally

Corns don't have a need to bask, like epic said she only used it because it was the only available heat source. The main concern for heat in corns is to aid the digesting process so you want it on her stomach not over head. If you keep her in a fairly warm room and have a UTH she will be perfectly fine through the winter months. As for a screen lid if you don't want to just buy one with the clips you can build a wooden frame and use screen mesh in it for a lid. The frame comes down over the sides to fit firm against the aquarium but then you'll still need some kind of reinforcement for because a full sized corn could easilly push it up and off the tank.

personally I made my screen lid for a 55 gallon tank I took 8 small pieces of wood and made two rectangle frames each one half the size of the tank. I didn't do it the way most people on here do where it overlaps I actually made it so its flush with the tanks trimming in which I than add wire screening(chicken mesh) to each rectangle making two doors which I thank glued (gorilla glue super glue anything you prefer) four small hinges, two on each door and glued the other end of the hinge to the trimming and finished it off by gluing one small latch locks to the front of each door. it has been secure I have not had any escapes and since it has two doors it mean I can leave the light on one door while opening the other one. if you need a diagram let me know ill try drawing one up.
