I have one and have used it successfully. It's an on-off type of thermostat versus a proportional thermostat.

One thing you will find it a +/- 3 to 4 degree swing from the set temperature. Also, I had to set it 3 to 4 degrees higher than what the sticker “said” was the temperature.

Overall, not a bad thermostat for the money.

I don't know if I agree with this statement...a little bit of marketing hype perhaps ;)
 
He's saying a topic about thermostat reviews happens to already be making some headway here and that you could probally check that one out as well :shrugs:
 
Steve- are you speaking of the new, redesigned BAH-1000 that was just released December 8th?

I have one of the previous model in use. It holds the temp very steady, and that end of the tank is hanging over the heat/AC duct- so it has to be on its toes! It didn't get kicked out with the 500Rs because of that.

I have one of the older models as well and while it worked, the temperature swings where higher than I thought they should be. My viv is downstairs in the middle of the house away from any AC/Furnace vents :shrugs:

The new ones might be better than sliced bread and for $40 I'd try one, I just don't have a need right.

Yeah, $40. For a mere $70 more, you can have a proportional thermostat that will be so much easier to live with. Seems like such an extravagant purchase- but it's _so_ worth it.
 
I'm currently using the new design. Compared to the older model, it seems about the same to me. The adjustment knob on the new one, is just that a knob. The old one wasn't like that. I like the new one in that respect.
 
Well after using the new and improved version for about 2 months now, it still works great. I'm only controlling about 100 watts. One thing I like about the BAH-1000 is that they give it a conservative rating of 300 watts. I think alife is still rating theirs at 1000 watts. A neighbor of mine has found that when he uses less than 500 watts on his alife units, they never fail.
 
If I were in the market for a good reliable thermostat around $40, I'd spring for $10 more and get a Ranco 111000 off Ebay.
