Room tempature for the weekend?

Corny Noob

Yes I know time and again the discussion of tempature has taken place, and yes I realize there is a topic about keeping snakes at room temptature normally, heck I realize theres a topic about keeping them temporarily at room temp for say a day.
My question is different though.
In May when I'm hopefully getting my snake I will be a few hours away from home, and then after going to the reptile show I will be proceeding another couple of hours down to my grandfathers house and staying saturday through sunday. So since it will be a new snake I won't be feeding it, so the thermoregulation for digestion won't be necessary, and I'll be leaving the snake alone anyway since it's probally going to be freaked out and what not.
So will the snake be ok for a saturday and a sunday? Despite how late it might be I plan on having the uth to set up for it with a thermostat sunday night, if not I'll do it monday morning (driving 8+hrs in a weekend can make you tired)
So what say you? I realize keeping snakes at room tempature for too long of a time can be healthy but is my situation temporary enough?

I personally think your snake will be fine so long as it's a very healthy speciman to begin with. What are you planning on keeping it in while your at your grandfathers house? I don't know for sure, and I don't know many experts can answer this, but I'm not sure keeping it in a deli container would be advisable. Try to see if you can get a critter keeper of some sort that will give it a bit more room, one with a hide and keep it in a warm area of the house. I don't know the actually thing to do but I know that is what I would do if in the same situation...Good luck with your new baby!

The plan if it all goes according to that is to bring down a 6qt sterlite with a hide waterbowl and papertowls since its small and secure for the baby. During the rest of the ride down though I would leave it in the cup it came in and secure it so the poor baby isn't sliding around.
Then when I bring it home I plan on placing the 6qt open in the 15qt I have to let the snake come out on it's own since it will still be too soon to handle the snake without unneeded stress.

Sounds like you have it all planned out to the best of the snakes comfort.Good for you! Hope all goes well for the weekend and for many years to come with your baby.

Sounds like a decent plan. If it's a hatchling you could probably leave it in the deli cup as long as it has water.

When it's in the sterilite, just make sure the lid is fastened down securely with straps or clips or something. A small hatchling might be able to squeeze under the lid since they don't fasten down very tightly.

Awesome thanks for the tip.
Oh and I know it's been asked before, but how small should the air vents be to prevent escaping?

The snake will be fine. Corns don't need constant 80 degrees to survive. You could leave him at room temperature (70's) for weeks and he'd be fine.

And yes, you can leave the snake in a deli cup for the weekend if it's a hatchling. Just make sure it has water. When I had my hatchlings in August they all stayed in deli cups for the first moth or so until they grew up a little bit.
