Rosy Boas?

Does anyone here have Rosy Boas? If so, how would you describe their temperaments? They seem like very cool snakes but I don't see them around too often, and I wonder why that is?

Thanks!:spinner:

Several of us around here have them, I believe. I know that Dean has a few/breeds a couple and I have one of Dean's babies from last year.

I quite enjoy mine, even though she's the only one of my snakes that I can expect to be at least 'nosed' (checking if I'm food) or halfway chewed on every time I get her out. She's never fully grabbed me -- just opened her mouth a few times, trying to figure out how to fit my size 13 fingers into her size 2 mouth.

I'd describe her behavior as that of a mentally handicapped three year old child. She does some of the weirdest stuff out of any of my snakes. I think she's fallen off her ledge a few too many times. I can't really point out any specifics of why I think of her as that, but if a snake could be called 'goofy' that's how I'd describe her. *shrug*

Also, she requires me to at the very least have her meal piping hot and tease her with it. She's never taken a f/t moose if I just dropped it in there with her.

I have them too. There are a few I trust more than others. Buddy has never once tried to eat me, but Bernice does EVERYTIME I have her out!

Mine are famous for grabbing and constricting their mouse, then forgetting all about it and wandering off..........

I love your description of her. They are very goofy snakes. But when they're hungry, they can be goofily nippy snakes. ;)

Offtopic:
I didn't think that the pair that produced your girl successfully bred this year, but I seem to be wrong. The Mom is getting very gravid looking, and she's hanging out on the warm side of her tub and staying there! Good sign. :)

I have a pair of fat little monsters.

i think thats probabloy the funniest snake description i have ever read on this site! :laugh01:
Thanks for making me luagh! lol

I recently bought a Rosy Boa, after seeking information about them on here. I had replies from Roy Munson, Tricksterpup and Starsevol among others, but not one of them, that I can remember, said anything about them being nippy, until after I had got her home :)

That being said, I have handled her at least 6 to 8 times now and not once has she tried to chow down on me, but she is a great strike feeder, just a whiff of mouse and she's on it :D

I think it's like most animals, each one has it's own "personality" if you like and I think I got really lucky with my girl :)

Thanks for the info guys!

They seem like cool animals..especially if you dont mind being chewed on lol! Thanks for the goofy description and the pictures.

I think they'd do very well here in Colorado (indoors and with heat obviously)as we have such low humidity. I wouldn't have to worry about RIs.

I may research them more and maybe see if at some point I can buy an established feeder that is known to be more docile and less mouthy!

Thanks again guys!:spinner:
