As I write this Roxy is asleep in my Hubby's hands.

It's so cute it reminded me I wanted to share some pictures of my new baby. She's a baby pastel red tail boa, and we picked her up at the sacramento reptile show this weekend.

Exploring her new terrarium.

That's so cute! I looking at these, I can't believe how much my father's red tail has grown. Here's a few pics from a couple weeks ago.

I love the picture of it licking the pumpkin. I still cant quite wrap my head around how fast she's going to grow. 2in per month, she'll be huge in no time. I've got to get my fill of baby cuddling in fast, she wont fit in my hands for much longer.

We got her at 18" She's approx 26" now. Only had her about 4 months. She's gaining girth pretty quickly as well.

she's about 18" right now. haven't measured but that's what we approximated. Cant believe she's gonna get that big in 4 months. how quickly did she move up in food size? is there any point ordering online quantities? what is she eating right now? sorry for all the questions. I'm just really excited and curious.

She was on small small rats. She's up to about medium now. She's so chunky. We feed her one every 5-7 days. Roxy looks kinda thin to be 18"... Or maybe Attie was fat to begin with. :p

Roxy was on mice, that probably accounts for the difference in girth. rats have a higher fat content from what I've read. were probably going to keep her on mice for a while longer... don't want to change her diet right after she moves to a whole new environment. we'll let her get settled in for a bit first. Don't want to stress her too much. I wonder if she'll grow slower since she's on mice.

That would definitely account for it. Denser bones, more content in the stomach, higher fat, etc. in rats vs mice. She's very beautiful. It scares me that Attie eventually grow to the size of her mother ~12'... I PERSONALLY won't own anything taller than myself lol.

I felt the same way until we were at the show and I got to see some of the larger snakes up close. And then one of the breeders asked if I wanted to hold one of the babies. As soon as she was in my hands I knew she was coming home with us.

I can't believe how much my BCI has grown. I got him the same time I got my motley boy and he was so tiny he could barely wrap around a soda bottle. Now he's almost hitting 4 feet in length. He started out on mice and he grew quickly, so he started getting two jumbos at a time, now he's getting two small rats at a time with mediums in the freezer. He's growing too fast for me to judge what a good meal is haha. However, I am following the boaforum's advice and feeding him every ten days now. They recommend feeding every 5-7 days for those under a year, every 10 days from a year to two years, and every 14-21 thereafter. He does not seem to mind the extension, but now he's growing slower :( haha.

They sure know how to hook you!

That they do. That's how I ended up with my blue motley as well.

She's not as long as my yearling amel, but she's twice as thick. I cant quite believe how fast she's gonna grow, it is nice to know that she'll slow down after a year though. Thanks for the first hand feeding info. It doesn't seem like there's much point ordering online if she's gonna be changing food size so often. I'd heard about the feeding schedule, just not how much and how often they move up food size. Luckily there's a local reptile breeder who can supply me so I don't have to go through Petco.

She's beautiful. Seeing those pictures really makes me want one even more. I also wish I could have made the Sacramento show. Congrats on the new addition!

Roxy is usually hanging out on her branches. right now she's got most of her on her branch and her hopper bulge on the ground. I think she was saying thank you for the hide this morning. by the time my husband came out to the living room she had already slithered on up to her favorite perch.

Cuuute!

I have a little baby Salmon girl... Can't wait til she starts getting big. :) I have her in a tub right now, and she's always out and about. Until yesterday, I had her in a 15"x11"x3" tall tote, with an ultratherm heat pad wrapped so it was both under and on top of her tub (had her stacked with 2 corns in the same size tubs), and she always chose to sit on top of her hide to digest, instead of hiding like any other snake. So cute. Last night she moved into a 28 qt tub, and she's been out exploring ever since. Only time she settled down was when I gave her a new hide, and she sat in it for a good 15 minutes... Then right back out again. :p
