I was sitting here and i looked up and i saw Sal halfway shed! I was so excited and i kept watching him and the shed broke halfway :awcrap: But he got the other part started, he was using the top of the rough wood on the top of his hides and he did the rest on his climbing branch, he had it all looped oround the branch :D When he was finished i took out the skin, the eye caps were there and the head was completely together. Halfway was where it broke in half, and then the tail.. was missing the last inch or so :cry: So i did what had been suggested from reading other threads about shedding. I used warm moist papertowels and just kept gently rubbing and it finally came off.. i was soo worried. There was also like a flake of skin in the middle where the skin had come off half way so i rubbed that off too. Other than that now problems and he looks awesome!!! Ive attached pictures of the skin. But i was just wondering why it didn't come off and why it was in two pieces :shrugs: I had a moist hide taht he never used except when i put him in it, but i live in FLorida and eveyrone assured me there would be no problems. But my AC is always on, thermostat at 78 usually. I was also soaking him in a "bath" every day while he was in the blue.. just in case. Maybe i should've misted his cage? Thanks and tell me what you think might've went wrong.

Ah- no big deal. You know what I'd do? I'd skip the moist hides, misting, and the baths, and see what happens next shed- and I'd stop worrying.

I can't remember, are you using lamps at all? I used to use a combo of lamps and uth, and there were occasional shedding problems. Since I went to tubs, uth only, and no lamps, all sheds are perfect. I live in New England, my AC is always cranked throughout the summer, and I don't give them any other humidity than what evaporates out of their water bowls. I don't think the drying effect of incandescent bulbs can be overstated. In display vivs, it's nice to have lighting. If I had one today though, I'd use low-heat fluorescent bulbs (the swirly kind that fits in standard bulb sockets), and let the uth do the heating.
 
no i don't have a heater over the top... i just have a UTH. Thanks for putting my mind at ease... im glad i got all the skin off of his tail, i don't want his tail to fall off.. lol. And i was so relieved to see that his eyecaps came off so i didn't have to worry about that.

Back when I first got into corns, and I didn't know much about them, I raised a male hatchling who used to leave a little of his old skin at the tip of his tail after shedding. I didn't know that I should've removed it, and I didn't. By the time he was an adult, this didn't happen anymore, but his tail was slightly stubbed. Believe me, it wasn't disfiguring- it was hardly noticable. It probably reduced his overall adult tail length by 1/8 of an inch.

So by all means, remove that tail skin- I would. But I don't think you'd have to worry about a tail-less snake if you missed it and left it on a couple of times. I've seen others who left a little of their old skin at the tip, but it came off next shed.
 
When mine were new, their first few sheds were always in pieces. And I did mist, and do the moist hide thing, etc, etc. But the sheds were still in pieces. I was so excited then they finally started shedding in one piece. I wonder if the stress of moving them, new home, and all that contributed to the imcomplete sheds. Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about your sheds. As long as all the old skin gets off, your snake will be fine.
 
There will be snakes that shed well and whole, and others that can't shed well to save their lives. I have two or three that I have to spend an hour "peeling" them in the bathroom with water in the sink. I call it the Snake Spa. They're all individuals.

Glad it came off ok.
