Just wanted to update how Sal's house is coming along... i know it will all change when we move him up to a 20 gallon but that won't be for quite a while... so anyway we have an Aspen substrate now that he loves to burrow in and make tunnels. He has his water dish and 3 hiding spots, one in the middle and one on each side. He has a nice bendy branch for climbing on. and some vines hanging from the lid that dangle to the ground. Let me know what you think!

EDIT: I also wanted to add that that tupperwear thing is his moist hide.. LOL, its on the warm side of course, he was actually in it while i was taking the pictures... almost time for a shed again. Can any body give me an idea of how to make a more asthetically pleasing moist hide? Maybe something that looks natural? I use peat moss for the hide.

Thanks

Just an idea, but maybe you could get a plastic rock, you know, the kind that you hide a key under and drill a big hole in the middle for him and put the moss in that. It might look natural.

get ride of the aspen, it does not look natural at all. Nice try though.

Did you get up on the wrong side of the bed today?

I was pushed and pushed to go with Aspen because it is the BEST for the snakes and the easiest to clean... what exactly would you suggest that i us? lol

Anyway, yes, i was talking about something natural looking for the moist hide I was walking around Home Depot garden center and i saw a few things that might work, but anyway, i happen to think the aspen is very asthetically pleasing and it is a natural substance... unlike the reptile carpet that i started out with.

I too have been curious on how to make a moist hide that doesn't look to obnoxious. On another moist hide note: How moist do you get the moss? Baxter hasn't shed yet, I have only had him for 5 days. I fed him tonight, and he ate up the pinkie in like minutes. :) I was soo happy. Since then he has just been hiding out in his tree.

I think your viv looks nice. Let us know if you try the fake rock idea, and how well it works.

enjcapp- i just take the moss (its more like dirt really.. lol) and i put it in water and then i sort of ring it out so its just moist, not muddy. And it stays wet for a good 3-4 days. I waited until he was blue to make it and then i put it in there and everyday i would hold him, id put his head up to it so he'd crawl in, but sometimes he used it himself.
Im keepin my eye out for something more aesthetically pleasing to use as a moist hide, ill let you know when i find something.

you could probably glue stuff like moss and twigs to the hide? try to find a non-toxic spray adhesive or even something like elmers and smear it all over. cleaning it will be a problem though. fake rock would be easier.
