Hes dead...not hes not...well maybe!

i recently got my snake a bigger water bowl because he grew out of it and he likes to lie in the water. so the person at the pet shop gave me a dog bowl. It was a bit bigger than i wanted but i took it.once i got home i filled it with water and buried it in the bark. My snake went to have a drink and fell in!!!!!!
if that wasnt bad enouth He turn upside down and just floated!!!!!!
i freaked out  . so i picked him straight out of there and he qiuckly squiwed off!
i got so worried i put in the old one!

question i asked myself.
1)was he just floatin for the sake of it!
2)was he uncoinsoius?
3)can he breath under water?

Help!!!!

If you were watching all the time, I don't think it would of been unconscious. I put mine in a baby bath now and again for a bit swim about and she swam underwater once even though the water wasn't that deep. As for the floating it may of just not been used to it and just lost it's sense of balance, unless the water was very cold and it's shocked it a bit. If it seem's to be ok now just keep an eye on it.

1. They just float. If you put them in a bath or something that holds a bit of water, they float real well and swim well too.

2. He was probably not unconscious. I'm sure he was a little shocked falling into the cool water.

3. No, they hold their breath just like we do.

I would put a water bowl in that is not so deep. You can get one that is big enough for him to soak in but shallow.

Good Luck.

I agree with Alicia. if you think your snake needed that bigger water bowl then just don't fill it as high, you'll probably have just as much water in there as a smaller bowl.
