Sealing wood inside cage?

What do you people use to seal the wood in your custom cages? I have some stain that it says stains and protects and some poly to use. I also have clear nonpores silicone. Is that All I will need? How many coats will it usually take?

I use aquarium sealant to "fix" a piece of wood (ie a branch) so it wont move, its good stuff and has a solid hold. I also use this to go around the inside of my viv's to make sure they can hold in the humidity and have an adjustable vent so i change the amount of humidity.

There are several things you can use. Simple would be just a boat varnish. More fancy but very impressive is a backgroud (and sides) out of tile adhesive and polystyrene. Personally I don't use any for my corns since the humidity is not THAT high. However for my rainforest vivs i use tileadhesive. Looks really cool as well.
