Second shed!!

Well i might be a newby to this snake keeping, but i must be doing something right, Rio is going into his second shed now, (second since i had him, he had 2 before i got him) his eyes are blue, started yesterday, he is growing, putting on weight & seems very happy. He allows me to pick him up, no problems.
I do have a couple of questions though....how often do i have to empty all the viv & put in new substat?? I have always taken out any poo i find but i know i am supposed to empty it completely. Also, what do i wash the viv out with??
Thanks for your help.
Marg.

Sounds like you're doing a great job so far.
Now, you'll want to remove any substrate around the droppings, of course. And you'll want to replace all of the substrate and clean all of your decorations and hides every 3-4 weeks, depending on the size of your snake and how often he's fed. Like, I'll change out my corns vivs every 3 weeks or so, but my BP, I have to do it every week and a half, 2 weeks.
When cleaning the hides and decor, I just run them under a hot tap and scrub for a little while with a rag or sponge. And as for cleaning the tank itself, I occasionally use a verry minor bleach solution (1 part bleach to 12 parts water) and then rinse and dry with plain water.

Thanks for the reply, can you tell me, if the bark hide & branch has been washed & is wet, does it have to be dried before i put it back into the viv or do i have to have 2 lots??
Marg.

I wouldn't say so, no. None of mine have ever had a problem with a damp log. Just run it under the tap, shake off some of the water, take a towel to it if you'd like, and set it back in. If you've got a lamp close by, it should dry in no time anyway.
