Securing of Probes

First off, want to thank everyone who has responded. I know I've had a lot of questions but the more we experiment, the more questions we have, lol. Just want to get it right. Anyway, in securing the thermometer and thermostat probes to the glass inside the tank above the UTH, I read somewhere that mounting putty (nontoxic) can be used, others have used tape flush to the glass. Some people say however, these are not safe that simply putting a weight (rock, pebbles) on top is the way to go. Anybody with a strong opinion on this?

I would definitely secure it with something other than a rock or pebbles. Snakes are ridiculously strong and you don't want them to move the probes. A dab of hot glue works, or gorilla glue. I have mine down with some crazy strong glue my mom gave me, those probes will never move.

We hold the probes right down on the glass, and run a bead of hot glue down each side. Once it cools, we can let go.

Hot glue seems to work the best because you can have it safely secure but yet when you want to remove it, it will remove without leaving residue. DO NOT use tape. Snakes will find a way to get under it and they get stuck and injure themselves. Tape should really not be used anywhere near a snake unless you are trying to trap them but that is another story. The suction cups are great but they only seem to work great for the first couple years, if that, then they don't keep a good seal after that. So then you will have to come up with plan b.

As far as hot gluing I will glue down the base of the probe. Not the area that reads it and not the cord that thicker area in between. If that makes any sense.

I may be wrong but I think the heat of the UTH might do funny things to the putty, and depending on your substrate it might turn into a sticky mess or come unstuck easily.

Just to be clear (since I haven't seen this covered in the other current threads, and I'm a newb) you are putting the probe on the glass just over the UTH, as in, under the substrate?
