I was just wondering what your opinions were. I raise feeders for my 2 corns, but I always have a bunch left over. I've started freezing them and vacuum sealing them. I had a bunch a few months ago, and gave them to the breeder of one of my corns in exchange for him probing my other corn. Now I have a bunch again, and this time I want to charge him for them. How much should I charge him? They are all rat pinkies of various sizes, from a few days old to about a week old. I've got a total of 60. Thanks for any opinions.
 
I'm still trying to sell my mouse pinks. But i find if you find out what he's buying sinlge rat pinks for and charging 50cents less. Just MHO.
 
Prices vary in different regions. I'm in Southern California and I ask 0.50 for rat pinks. If I where you I would start by asking 0.50 each for them (much more than that and it would be cheaper for your buyer to buy in bulk and pay shipping) ~ and if your buyer is not interested at 0.50 each, just hold onto them. You said your vacuum sealing so they will be fine~ and come summer when all the babies of different species begin hatching you can run an ad and almost name your price for pinkies (though I still ask just the 0.50 each all year long~ my phone rings off the hook with people hoping I have more in the late spring through the summer)
 
I sell extras to friends or other snake acquaintances. I don't charge near as much as any petstore, as it isn't my goal to turn into Rodent Pro #2. Usually just a few dollars mostly.

Pet stores around here won't buy from private people, at least when I've contacted them about buying extra feeders or fancy mice/rats for "pet quality" animals.

I get the same run around no matter who I call: "We've got a contract with such and such, and it'd be breaking that contract if we bought from other people. But you can give them to us and we'll take them off your hands." I think not. I'm not GIVING you something you can turn around and make a $3-$6 profit on.

Personally I think the whole thing bites, even though I understand their reasoning a lot of the time. Most of the private breeders (like myself) tend to produce better looking and healthier stock than those who are in it for the money. I just wanted to give some pretty mice and rats a better life, I guess. But in the end, they went to the belly of a snake. :shrugs:

I know what you mean. My g/f has a few friends down in Alberta who gives her dwarf hamsters to the petstores, for free bags of food. I wonder if that would work up here. If so it would mean free food for mice. lol Do you think this could work? But then again Misty you also should barter to. You know "I'll give you this many mice if you instead of money give me a bag of food". We think it'll work. We'll try some day.
 
To be honest, I don't shop at that local shop for supplies much. Their pet supplies are usually $5-$10 more than what Petsmart charges for the exact same thing. They're the place I go to for fish/reptiles mainly.

Most of my rodent supplies come from Petsmart, which doesn't even want to talk to you about buying locally produced animals for a fraction of the cost, oh no. ;)

Not to mention, most of my rodent food I buy in 50lb bags if I can find it. Those little bags just don't last long. =P

I may try it one day with the small shop and see if they'll give me store credit, perhaps. But I seriously doubt they'd do that, just doesn't seem to be their style.
 
Well up here its also a privatly owned petstore. So that may explain why I might be able to sell them mice fod food lol.
