Seperate Feeding Box

When they are hatchlings, I use the deli cups they came in. (Can I say deli cup on the forum?) As they outgrow those, I use some old cookie tubs I have. After that, they move up to rubbermaid or sterlite containers.

Point is, there's all sorts of things you can use. There are no hard and fast rules, except that it be safe for your snake.
 
For my "problem children', I use a small hook;

For larger animals (particularly after feeding) two hooks will offer better support.

Utilising a hook does require a bit of practice, but I find that snakes who might ordinarily become easily agitated and/or strike regularly (after a meal or otherwise) will ride a hook with little or no difficulties.
