Sex questions?

First I must thank the forum for the responses and good reading. My baby seems to be doing great, 3wks and 1 good, and 1 messy feeding!!! She/he has finally come out of hiding. She spends alot of time now exploring her home (and YES she thinks she can climb glass) Avid little fellow or shiela she may be but she/he has had only 1 poo. I just gave her another pinkie tonight/ afraid to check yet to see if it was successfull (I dont want to disturb) In addition I just added to the viv (after reading about shedding ect.) A climbing stick and polished river rock to about 1/8 of the habitat. After much adau here are my questions:
Should I wait for poo before I feed again?
What should the poo look like?

When I got her/him there were no visible "spurs"? There are now. The keeper at the place I got it from said she couldn't sex or tell how many weeks it was at that time.
She/He is apprx 14" and precious.

How do I sex Him/Her?

Are the additions a help or a hinderance?

First about the poo. From what I've seen, after they've settled in, and gotten on a feeding schedule, they generally poop from 2 to 4 days after eating, but as with everything, that's not always the case. I've had my snake go for two feedings and then poo a whole bunch all at once. If they are due to shed, sometimes they will wait until afterwards and then poop. I would feed regularly and forget about poop, except of course for cleaning it. Sometimes they will poop and you will miss it because its underneath the substrate whether its aspen or bark or paper, actually with little ones like that size, sometimes their poops so small that the aspen absorbs it and by the time you get to it the snake has slithered through it and there's nothing left of it but white powder. Oh and how it looks, it looks kind of like bird poop. Some dark stuff and some lighter stuff. The lighter stuff is usually yellow or white and the dark stuff is usually brown or black. At least that is the way it looks right now while they are still on pinkies. Later on when they start eating mice with hair, I think it gets a little more uke01: because they can't digest the hair and it comes out in a big wad along with the poop. But enough about poop. The rock and stick are good as far as I know. I don't think you can really have too much stuff in your viv. It keeps them entertained. She/he will probably lay on the rock and may use it for shedding and could possibly even hide under it or around it and the stick will probably be used for climbing. They all think they can climb glass and when they almost reach the top of the viv.... plop, down they go, :grin01: I think its funny!

As for sexing, you should take he/she to a vet or reptile expert such as a breeder or your local herp society, find someone to probe or pop it. Doing it visually when they are that age is difficult I think because their organs and such are not fully developed and "filled out" like they would be when adult. Although I've heard that if he/she is light colored, such as a snow or amel, you can put them up against a light (not touch of course) and you can see through them and tell whether they are boy or girl, but I'm not exactly sure what you'd be looking for, someone else will know for sure though. Wow, lots of info here from one person, but don't worry, others will soon chime in as well and will probably be less long-winded as well, but thats what you get with an insomniac, but anyway, good luck with your new snake and be glad she's eaten for you. BTW, why was one of her feedings messy, if you don't mind my asking?

Feed every 5 days for a hatchling. That is enough time for the pinkie to fully digest and the snake to pass the item. Poo looks like poo and will sometimes have white and yellow dryness in them. That would be snake pee.

Cornsnakes do not have spurs nor anything resembling a spur. The keeper is either lying, or doesn't know how to sex hatchlings---or doesn't want to. Most breeders 'pop' them, which is done by applying pressure at the base of the tail and rolling forward until the hemipenises evert. Don't do that. Find someone who knows what they're doing to sex the snake for you.

Messy? because in her feeding box there was only the head of the pinkie and lots of "juice" left over. It was kind of stuck to the box! Im new, that seemed kind of messy to me. Why didnt she want the rest? Do tell

I realize this is probably a redunant question, but at what age do they first shed?

Oh man! That's weird. I've never heard of a snake only eating part of a mouse when offered the whole thing. Maybe someone else can chime in. Was the pinky f/t or live. Maybe if it was f/t, you got a bad one and it was mushy inside instead of solid and she may have eaten it backwards (it happens) and when she got to the head it all sort of fell apart????:shrugs: Weird! What a sight though and to have to clean it up afterwards, gosh I hope that pinky was f/t and not live. EWww... either way.

shed question... if you have had her for three weeks, then she has probably already shed at least once before you got her. At that age they should shed every 3 to 4 weeks I think. They are growing all the time if fed well at that age.

Where in my area do i find someone (vet/herp) to help? I am in the south Puget Sound and perhaps i dont know where to look but every avenue i have researched i had negative results. Pleassee help

Yeah, it was f/t and a bit ugly. Thats ok she kept what she wanted down. Right?

I realize I went against the proper grain in aquiring my sugar ( I did my research after) from a pet shop and have had no luck in finding a doc w/ out bad requisits. Please Help!
