sick'em felix
damn this sucks she is gone and probably missing for 2 days. do u think she would leave my room and head somewhere else? or do i have a chance of finding her in my room. also name some places where your snakes turn up. thanks bye

I guess it depends on what is in your room. I seem to recall that when most people find their snake, they are usually against the wall, underneath some furniture. Good luck with the search. I would just start looking underneath everything in the room the snake was in and work outward.

Do a search for lost snake there is allot of info people have given
Look in any dark warm areas. closet is a good place to start, in shoes, socks, under bed, in between bed etc...

You can try several things:

set up bottole traps if your snake is small enough, try doing a search for more info

Sprinkle flour or some sort of non toxic powder at each doorway so you can see the snakes trails if it has left the room.

Lay plastic bags with a food source on top, you will hear the snake rusting if it is on the bag.

Try looking in warm, dark places, especially in drawers.
Remember, they can fit into the smallest places imagineable so leave no stone unturned so to speak ;)

Good luck and please keep up unformed, and dont give up!!!

My 3 month old Corn has escaped twice from his Viv, the first time the viv door was slightly ajar, so we locked it when he was found then a couple of days later he was gone again this time he got through the gap between the glass and runners, now he is in a pet container.

The first time we found him within 24 hrs on top of the chest freezer which is housed in a tiny room, the furthest point from the Viv 3 rooms away. The second time it was 7 days before finding him again in the same room by the chest freezer wrapped around a cold water pipe.

This room is by far the coldest in the house, but perhaps was getting some heat from the elements on the chest freezer and it is dark as no lights in there. He would have had to pass my two dogs both times to make his escape in there.

Both times we ripped things apart looking and I searched that little room twice the second time.

So if you do have any small dark rooms, cupboards etc I would have a check.

I hope you find Felix soon.

she wont eat the pinky i left out. im starting to think she isnt in the house. the viv had a lid and never had a problem with her getting out before. i think my brother or my parents threw her out. this sucks preety bad cause if she still is in the house i dont want her dying. i have no idea what to do.

Depends on the age of the snake. Older snakes can go months without. A young hatchling could probably go a month or so.

she is about 5-6 months old. im very afraid that she is all alone in my house. i havent seen a trace of her. she is too small to be on her own

She should be alright for a while. Look directly around the viv, up in curtain rods and even under the bottom of the viv. Drawers are a favorite spot and any place you think they can't fit...check anyway.

:wavey: saraelf69 - This was a previous post I made back on 4/25/06 in this same forum. Hopefully some of the ideas will help. If ever you are looking for emergency information, you need the answers to right away, you can use the forum search feature and hopefully that will get you quick answers while you wait for other replies.

You might want to think of some scenarios that may happen in the future and do some forum searches on them and save the info in your favorites list. I have a few saved myself. Not necessarily will I have to use them but in case I can't remember it all, I have it saved and labelled accordingly for quick reference. I know how it can be when time is of the essence.

Also I am sure there are a ton of other posts on lost snakes, so try and look it up. You already have had a good reply so far but it doesn't hurt to keep searching and trying other things if you find she is a bit sneakier and wants to avoid the normal techniques lol. I will keep my fingers crossed that you find her. Keep us informed.

FIRST: FILL IN THE OLD CABLE LINE HOLE!!!! DON’T JUST SHOVE PAPER IN IT, CAUSE HE WILL PUSH THAT OUT.

SEAL IT WITH GREAT FOAM OR MASKING TAPE, SOMETHING SOLID THAT CAN NOT BE PUSHED THROUGH.

SECOND: JAM A TOWEL , UNDER YOUR FRONT DOOR GAP, AND I MEAN JAM IT HARD OR HE WILL WORK HIS WAY AROUND IT.

IF YOU KNOW THERE ARE EXITS AND YOU DON’T BLOCK THEM THEN TRYING THE BELOW EFFORTS ARE PRETTY MUCH USELESS, SO BLOCK THE ESCAPE ROUTES.

To find him there are 4 very sound way’s to capture escaped or lost snakes

I would do all 4 at the same time in attempts to locate your snake as soon as possible.

(1) Pop bottle traps - an example is pictured below.

This image is provided from another post in this forum by pgr8dnlvr ( great pic & probably will be a help to many in this forum when trying to figure out how to make a pop bottle trap ) - Good job pgr8dnlvr :wavey:

popbottles2kw.jpg

These are made by cutting a pop bottle top off, then inverting it into the bottle itself and taping it in place. Place a pinkie inside and wait. If the snake finds it and goes in to retrieve the pinkie, he will find once he has eaten he can’t get his now engorged body out of the bottle opening.

Once you have him, peel the tape off which holds the bottle and top in place and put your little fella back in his viv to rest and get some heat.

(2) Plastic bag traps - Take empty plastic bags ( The crinkly light weight kind you get at grocery stores or Wal-Mart, etc. ) Don’t use trash can bags, they are useless as the point here is to listen for rustling.

Lay the plastic bags all along the walls in the house as snakes generally go to baseboards to move about rooms and is generally there pattern of travel. Once you lay them out set back, turn down the lights and listen for the rustling of the bags.

I myself have a cat so I know how cats and plastic bags are, you really need to remove the cats from the house for a night because the cats will just play with the bags and move them which makes it pointless to use them and that would be sad because it is such a good way to find them.

(3) Flour Traps: Take flour and scatter at least an inch long strip in front of doorways ( yep even carpeted doorways, it vacuums up so don’t worry ) if the flour was trod through you will see a direction of movement which will help you pin point the location he was headed and provide a narrower search and locate position in the home.

(4) Heat Source Trap: Lay a heat source in an area of the house with a pinkie near it, I personally would open the head cavity so it can really smell the pinkie. This will give him a heat source, which he will most likely be seeking out and food, which he may also be seeking out. If you choose this method, use the plastic bags leading up to the heat source. That way you can hear him as he heads for it. Just don’t put the pinkie directly on the heat source because it will dry it out and evaporate any liquid in the pinkie itself making it worthless as far as being a food item for your snake.

I hope some of this helps, also do a forum search on places snakes hide and look in all those places. A favorite place seems to be bathrooms because of their heat and moisture levels created when people bathe. But search for escaped snake hiding places to further your search.

The sooner you find him the better.

My snake has been missing since the 20th... I know its frustrating when you dont have any idea where its hiding and its not eating the food you leave out for it, but dont give up... Ive read some other people's missing snake stories and sometimes time is the only thing you need to find your snake... I keep looking for my snake and I leave food out overnight with water hoping he is still in my room but I still havent found him..... Good Luck and let me know if you find your snake!

im hoping she didnt get out of my room. thanks everyone for helping me, still no sign of her but im not giving up.
