She just shed!

Hey guys. My Amel just had a clutch of 13 eggs. She was really twitchy and nippy. But she was just rubbing her nose all over her cage because she just did her post egg laying shed! It was the first one i have ever watched and it was quite a site. Now she is back to her normal self...... gliding around the cage. I took out the shed right after she got it off and measured it. It is 5 feet long ... so that means she is 5 feet! Is it normal for her to rub her body on the glass and all over everything even though she just shed? She got all the skin off (one piece) but is she making sure she got it all off? Thanks.

well

Just so you know, the shed skin you measure is not an accurate way of measuring, if the shed is 5 feet it doesn't mean your snake is exactly 5 feet, I believe shed is a bit bigger than the actual size once it comes off.

I think you've got it backwards, bmm - I think the shed skin is up to 1/3rd longer than the actual snake... because the sclaes are "unfolded" in the shed skin it is longer than when the snake is wearing it... I *think* :)

I just use the SnakeMeasure program!

as everyone said, measuring the shed skin is usally unaccurate.... it's much bigger than it's usal size....(that is why everytime one of my "babies" shed I just throw them away.....I have sheds almost everyday now...LOL....) Try using the measuring program....it's better this way...

I would think that the rubbing after shed is normal....cause it might still feel the itchyness after shedding. The dead skin on an unshed snake is quite itchy...(at least from what I have heard and read....)

Good Luck and Happy Herping!
