Shed question

Both my corn snake and my kingsnake are in shed. My question is whether I should mist the tubs once a day to boost humidity even though my humidity is always around 59-62% without misting? Is it like a BP where they need 70-80+% to have a good shed? Thanks in advance!

If you're going to mist the viv, you may as well make sure the humidity stays inside, by placing a piece of plastic wrap LOOSELY over the screen. If they have never shed with you, you could just see what happens this time with no additional humidity.

Best thing to do is to keep some sort of shed box in the viv, depending on the size of your snake, a container with moss and water. Works great for my corns, they'll go in there for a few days while in shed, come out and hide for another day or two these shed no problem.

There is no need for a screen seeing as they are both kept in a rack and they have both shed with me before and I have no problems but my friend just came over and said you always need to mist no matter the species. I always thought that if they shed fine with the humidity where its at, then dont change it but I would like some second opinions, especially for the Florida King. He shed fine last time but his humidity is only around 59-60% this time around. Any thoughts?

well what we do is to keep the humidity up we have a hand towel that we wet under the tap then we ring it out then put it on top of the screen..beside the lamp. the humidity goes up alot and helps :]

Corn snakes don't need humidity as high as some boas in order to be able to shed. 60 % humidity is more than enough to allow them to have a good shed. If that's what your humidity in the cage is, then you shouldn't have to do anything else. Especially if you haven't had any problems before.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

By misting unnecessarily you could introduce new problems. I never mist, rarely need humid hides and only see an incomplete shed once in a blue moon (usually the classic tail tip rather than a full-blown bad scrappy shed).

:) I would have to second the "if it ain't broke..." If you're that worried about it, I would also recommend the shed hidey. That's what I do for my babies & that way they can decide for themselves what they want/need. Usually Squiggle hides out in his for a couple days before his shed, but this time he's decided not to. We'll see how he comes out. W/winter it's a bit more dry around here.
Hope your babies shed perfectly for you.
