Shed Time?

Bug22baby

Snakes and more Snakes
Just wondering how long do most adult cornsnakes take to shed? I got this guy on July 2nd, who has been in shed since I picked him up. He refuses every meal and looks milky still. Its going on 3+weeks. Most my adults go blue then go normal then shed soon after, but never noticed a 3 week process. Although this is the only adult snake of mine that has gone off food durig shed. Which I know is not uncommon, just wondering how long is the average shedding time for a adult corn?

3 weeks looking milky doesn't sound right at all.

I've had my oldest pair for 13 years and they've never looked milky for anything like that length of time.

I'm sure a few more of the experts will chip in here but if that skin doesn't shift soon I'd be thinking about paying a visit to a vet.

Good luck with it.

Yes I didnt think this amount of time was normal. Im gonna try soaking him tonight, see if that will give him some help. Although I know hes been in his water dish cause he relieves himself in it all the time. So just see what happens after a few more days. Then maybe a vet trip

Are you sure he's been in blue that long? or was it just that his colour went dull that long ago? I always go by when the eyes turn blue, then 3-4 days after they clear I expect a shed to be lying around.

Well its a male 2002 red candy cane and since I have gotten him which was on July 2nd, he has been milky looking, a week later when I got him out to feed he was blue (July 9) then again a week later (July16) he was still blue. I have not messed with him to keep stress limited. He still has no shed and his color is still milky, I will pull him out to check his eyes later this evening. But from his coloring which I can see part of his body from the opening to his hide he is still milky looking. Very easy to tell on a Red Candy Cane, he looks orange! Im gonna give him a soak and and yet another hide a wooden one to make sure he has something to rub against to shed tonight. Hopefully it comes off soon.

Just an idea, maybe certain morphs do show signs for longer than others. Maybe it's something to do with the colour pigments, and how easily they show the 'blue' chemical through. I suppose only someone with several different morphs could answer that though. Like a say, just an idea.

Possible, I know with my regular amel I notice his shed before blue as well. But never for a 3 week period. The other thought I came up with is that maybe stress from being in a new location? I know that before I seperated a pair I had together in the past I was having shed problems with one of them. Since seperation never had a shed problem again. Dont know if that was stress or different viv conditions. I will give it a little bit more time, he could just be a slower guy then the rest, just a lil nervous because he hasnt ate since I got him, dont want him to become a non feeder. Although hes 3 years old and has ate fine until now. Probley just needs more time!

IMO, I would say it is not due to stress as shedding is a natural process that the snake has no control over, it just happens as and when required. I aren't an expert by a long shot though, it's just my opinion.
I hope all goes well and the he sheds soon. :)

Well just checked peppermint and hes out of blue, all temps are right. And he lost the milky color. Appears tht he should shed soon. Hopefully soon!
