Hi! We got our first snake about a week ago and while we have looked up plenty of information on the internet, we still have some questions. First question is that our snake has red eyes, so like everyone says how their eyes turn blue before they shed, will they be a different color with our snake? He/she is about 4 months old and we fed "him" for the first time 2 days ago. We noticed his color looks more dull and not so bright and his eyes are usually really red but now they seem more of a light red, almost orange. I'm pretty sure this means he is about to shed but I'm wondering how long he will stay this way before he sheds? We have only noticed it the last day or so. Also he has never tried to strike at us but sometimes he seems a little jumpy, do the chances of him striking increase as he nears his shedding?? Because from what I've read you aren't supposed to handle them much. I still have plenty of questions but one major question we are a little concerned about is with Salmonella. I've heard that all reptiles carry it and that the only way to completely rid them of it is by antibiotics. We wash our hands before & after handling the snake but we are somewhat freaked out by the thought of Salmonella so we wash our hands several times after handling and absolutely do not touch ANYTHING until we wash our hands. Should we be this worried about it?? Any starter advice on these subjects and anything else is GREATLY appreciated b/c we want to take the best possible care of him! Thanks so much!!
