Shedding tends to be dependent on growth. They outgrow it and it comes off. I'm guessing your little one had a growing spurt and needed to shed the old one to make way for the one that fitted 
I keep track of when mycrew sheds, but I've never kept track of when the next one was due. I'm pretty sure that even my 6 yr old doesn't shed with any real regularity. When it happens it happens, as long as it's a clean/complete shed.
