I'm a new snake owner and it has now been a month since I first got my amel, Clementine. She's being doing great and eating like a champ (a f/t pinkie every 5 days). I think she is about to shed, but I'm not sure and was hoping to get some information.
For general info about her, she's is almost a year old and shed in May prior to when I got her.
She last fed on Thursday (3 days ago) and when I was pulling her out of her tank, I noticed her eyes looked a little cloudy. Since she is red-eyed, they weren't really 'blue' and they weren't super cloudy either. Just something I noticed. After being placed in her feeding tub, she didn't strike the pinkie confidently as she usually does. She would strike and bite, but not actually take it out of my tongs. Eventually I just let the pinkie fall into the tub and after another bite/release, she started eating.
I assumed this behavior was because of poor vision with the cloudy eyes. I got all pumped up thinking my first shed experience is coming up soon.
After feeding, I generally leave her alone for 48 hours. This morning, I went to see how she was doing and to do our usual handing time so she gets used to me. I noticed her eyes don't seem cloudy and her color seems normal.
Now I'm perplexed. Its my understanding that eyes do clear up right before the actual shed, but I would have thought they would stay cloudy longer. Now I'm wondering if I just didn't imagine the whole thing.
So my question is... how long do a snakes eyes stay cloudy? Any other tips about what to expect or thoughts on Clementine would be appreciated. Thanks! ^_^
