shedding issue again...

THIRD TIME, i don't know what is wrong! norb's skin is just breaking off toward his head now. i had moss in the cage and last night i got home and the moss was scattered all over the cage so i know he attempted to shed his skin, but it's just not working for the little guy :( i don't understand. the temperature and humidity is fine. i will take care of it this evening either buy putting him in a deli cup with moss or using the paper towel trick, but this bothers me. i'm concerned there's a deeper health issue that's causing this problem :( wah! help! help!

Misting...

One thing that I did that I think helped my snake's shed go so smoothly is that I sprayed him and the substrate (lightly) twice a day after his eyes turned blue. I believe that I read about this technique on one of the (many) threads on this forum.

Good Luck!

try increasing the humidity when your snake goes into Blue phase...start misting once a day until he sheds...What are you using for heat? If you have a Heat/llight lamp running that works for and against you. A light will put off heat, but will also dry out the viv. what substrate are you using?

Let us know how things go with getting the shed off.

i use red heat...

during the day and occasionally night glo when my apartment is a little chilly. i am currently using coconut fiber substrate. i don't think it is very good because it doesn't provide him with the proper surfaces to assist in getting the skin off. i'm gonna switch to something else shortly. i have had trouble determining the blue phase because he is a snow corn. i recognized a change in behavior this week when i handled him, he was more cranky and nippy so i assumed he was getting ready to shed. i sprayed the substrate and added in the moss. i don't usually spray the snake because he flips out when i do, but if it's necessary i will start doing it. i had thought in the past that maybe dehydration was causing the issue, but i have seen him drink water a few times in the past couple weeks.

I use the red heat too, but again, it can dry out the viv. I have placed a small water dish just under the lamp to allow evaporation of the water, and then I put a small piece of plastic over half the top of the viv to keep the moisture in. I have found that this helps out a bit with humidity. What substate are you thinking of switching to?

I switched over to aspen about 5 months ago, and have not had a single problem with sheds. And, you may not have to have as many hides as the the aspen is very good for borrowing.
