Shedding Problem

This isnt about one of my corns, it's about the baby grey ratsnake I caught a while back, the few other times he shed it was fine.. but this time, theres a little left on him, like a little over an inch just left on his tail, and hanging off farther. I am scared since this hasn't ever happened before, didn't know who else to ask. Thanks everyone, for any help in advance!

I have never had rat snakes but there are numerous measures that can be taken (preventative and corrective) when a snake has a bad shed. First a couple Q's.....Was the rest of the shed good or did it come off in pieces?? How do you measure humidity?

If the rest of the shed was good I wouldn't worry too much about your humidity. Maybe just mist before the next shed. To get the skin on the tail area off you could either: try soaking the area in a shallow bowl of water and gently help the skin off, use a damp washcloth to help get the skin off, or a combination of both.

These are just my suggestions and I am sure others will reply as well, but GOOD LUCK!!

Oh you should also do a search on shedding. I am sure you will be able to find tons of information seeing that it is a subject that has been covered numerous times.

Good luck!!

Definetly use lukewarm water and a wash cloth or paper towel to get that shed off of the tail. It can consrtict it and cut off the blood flow. Then you will lose the end of the tail.

A little while after posting that, I reorganized his housing.. just moved the bowl/hide around, to get him active, and as he was moving around it came off. That piece was all whole, the head piece and a few small pieces were scattered around =/ Humidity bad?

Glad to hear it all came off. The fact that it wasn't whole might just mean that your humidity is a little low. Maybe try upping it a bit or misting the tank with water next shed. :shrugs:
