Shedding Question

When I bought my new baby corn, he was in blue. It seems like he's in the "clear phase" now. He was just fed before he went into blue, so I haven't fed him yet and he's not due til after the shed anyway.

How often should I check for a shed skin? He's in a 10gal grey tub and he likes to hide under the paper towels. I feel like I'm disturbing him every time I check for a shed, and I feel bad.

Usually he will leave the shed out where you can see it. I'd expect him to shed in 24 hours or less.

you were right, he shed :3 I checked it out and the tail tip was on it, but from about mid-body to the head it was balled up. I tried to gently pul it out to see the head, but it was so balled up I couldn't get the head out :/ Is this somewhat normal?

I was able to use tweezers to help unravel it, and the eye caps were on it! :3 Still, is this a common thing, for it to be all balled up?

I'm not sure if it's common, but I've had it happen with two of our snakes. We carefully unraveled it to check for eye caps. Both were fine and had shed completely, and their next sheds weren't as crumpled. Hope that helps :)

It's normal for it to be balled up, and sometimes when you unball it, it will be moist, also normal. Sometimes they'll poop in the skin while they shed, leaving you a balled up, poop filled lump of snake skin - normal and gross. It's still a good idea to straighten it out and look for the tail and eye caps.

Love this forum--you can always search and find someone who has had something similar happen :).

We just had this happen with Alberto's last shed. It looked very weird, we did confirm eyes and tail but I was wondering if this was normal. I imagine he maybe got it caught on something--sort of creepy looking but glad it is ok. Have already had a poop in a shed--wasn't thrilling but there you go! :shrugs:

Lucky for me, Sydney's sheds have been pin-straight so far. My ball python on the other hand...

I think it's a snake thing ;) as long as the shed is there and the tail and eye caps are also shed, it's all good!

ahahaha!
your ball pythons shed looks hillarious!!!

balled up and nasty looking.. but like you said, as long as all the main prices are there then its a perfect shed to Me! :)

Exactly! I did unfortunately have to rip it apart a bit, but found both eye caps and the tail tip. Nothing left behind :) It was really funny because he was blue when I got him... and then 2 days later I found that (well, my partner did) and I was very confused. But they don't call them BALL python's for nothin'! ;)

ahahaha!
yeah I would say your doing a great job, that looks like it was a nice moist shed!
:) and its definitely a balled up shed..
