shedding...

how often do corns shed? I think my Mere is about 1 month old (she just shed for the first time with me two days ago and i've had her for a week and a half)...does it depend on their environment, their stress levels, their age, etc...or is there a somewhat specific time period I can go by?

p.s. a funny story - i had put the first shedding on a windowsill to dry it out (so i could put it in a scrapbook) and it blew off and I'm pretty sure my dog ate it :eatsmiley i was worried he'd be sick for a while, but he seems fine. =)

Young corns shed about once a month depending on how often and how much you feed them. Adults may only shed a couple times a year.

Don't worry about the missing shed, there will be plenty more to come. I too kept some of my first corns sheds. Now I just throw them out, seems like there are new sheds in someones cage everyday!

Good luck with the lil one,
Quigs

PS. I have 3 big dogs and they have eaten far worse that snake sheds and they are all just dandy....slightly nuerotic but ok! :crazy02: :crazy02:

Thats is interesting Kerena I have been monitoring my snakes shed and can currently see no pattern, it would be a very rough maths average of every 7 weeks for my full grown corn but I have only had her since early Feb.

Btw...

I write everything down from feedings to shedding. I keep my reptiles on schedule from feedings eating at the same time when its time to eat.

She hits her shed at the end of the month 11 days after there ya go :)

I am also using her for breeding purposes. why she does shed so frequently.

I am very anal about my reptiles.

thanks everyone! i'm really enjoying this site - i've been here a couple of days, and am very impressed with the wealth of info...what did we do before the internet?

Welcome to the forums. My Hatchlings shed once a month, but like those above, it depends on how often you feed, and how fast the little one grows. Before internet, we relied on snail mail, and telephone.
