Shedding

Hey everyone, I've been a member for awhile and have read around on the forums but i'm still a rookie on the subject. :) I currently own 7 '04 corns for around a month now all have shed once since I bought them, but this is where I am stuck: :bounce:

One of my females, a beautiful anery '04 hatchling has cloudy eyes...again.
The last time this was noticed was on 9/16/04, and shedding was completed on 9/22/04. Today is 10/15/04. Exactly a month and a day since shedding started. Somewhere I read that they shed several times a year, not every month. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal and I need to read more? :shrugs: I intend on buying the Cornsnake Manual asap I have so many questions everyday that the forums usually answer.

Other info if it helps: I have personally fed her 5 times from 9/20 to 10/15 and she has never refused a meal nor any regurges.
The humidity is high enough that water droplets form only on the cool sides of the 12 qt containers I keep them in.
I am using ceramic heat emitters.

Mine both shed about every month, so don't worry. As a matter of fact, my aztec just shed today, and I didn't even notice her going blue. Must of gone blue while she was hiding out digesting! She looks all pretty though, and now my amel looks dull.

Thanx Krenna, I see you have beardies, I have yet to own a few but I hear they are really nice pets. Almost bought 5 sandfires a while back but I have no room.

Both of mine are a little over a year old. One is an June '03, and the other Aug '03. It does sound like your humidity is a bit high. You don't want condensed water on the sides all the time. You might end up with blistering. I only increase the humidity by misting when they are getting ready to shed, and they are in tanks, not plastic containers, so there's a lot more air circulation.

Oooo...Well I may have to change my setup but is this mandatory? :sidestep: I figured tanks once they are at least a year old. The warm sides are very dry. I leave the water bowls on the cool side and that is where all of the humidity is, I find them 90% of the time in the hide on the cool but yet humid side. It's a pain to clean though, im using newspaper and I have to change the newspaper everynight otherwise it gets too soggy. Ugh, it's probably time for a new setup already. :shrugs: Im thinking of getting more anyway, actually today I might get 5 more from my aunt. She is losing intrest in them because she only intended to breed. I'll probably have to quarenteen though. :-offtopic Doesn't help to get a new setup or 12 seperate tanks yet. I just wanted to know if, since they have been fine the past month and I've seen great groth and thriving (They're handled everyday for at least 10 mins or more), it is mandatory to switch to tanks.

Why don't you just put more holes in the plastic to help get more air circulating? They may find the warm side, warmer than they want to be, and have no choice but to be damp. Mine prefer the cool side except when digesting too. It's not mandatory that you ever switch to tanks. You can use the sterilite, or rubbermaid forever as long as they're big enough. I think most of the people with rack systems use the plastic.

Yeah, I have holes in all of the tops of the sterilite 12qts, but I need to borrow a soddering iron to burn the holes in the sides because I tried to poke them in one time and just cracked the plastic completely and that sucked.
