Well not sure about this one. Jake is my first snake who I have had for about 1 month. He is 4 years old and is normally quite lively. For the past week he has been curled up in his hide and has been quite irritable, tail rattling and the like (hasn't bitten tho) I thought he might have been going in a shedding phase. i couldn't see very well into his hide but I thought his eyes might have been clouded over. Anyway today I tipped him out of his box into his cage to get a better look at him, his eyes are clear, there seems to be a patch of skin on his nose that is looking dull and peeling slightly but the rest of him isn't especially dull but not bright like he had just shed. couldn't see any shed skin in his viv either. what's going on? Please help, he isn't like his usual self. :shrugs:

Once a snake as gone through the blue phase of the shed cycle (where their eyes clour over and get very dull) they clear up again. The only difference is that they will look slightly duller and might have a 3D effect to their skin (you can sometimes notice that the skin looks different almost seeing the two layers separately). Then they will shed their skin. It usually takes mine about a week to go through the whole process from blue eyes to shed. I wouldn't worry and wait a bit. You'll have a shed within a week if your snake is in the shed cycle.

Thanks for your quick reply. shall I offer him food while he is in this stage (if he is shedding) as he is due to be fed Monday or shall I leave it until he has shed?

It won't do snakey any harm to offer food now, but it's common for them to refuse to eat until after they've finished. Every snake is different though - mine has never refused to eat whilst preparing to shed, but some refuse every time.

Most don't like to be disturbed while blue, so maybe next time you know he's in that stage you could just hang on and wait? It's up to you mind. It's usually 3-4 days after their eyes clear up before they actually shed the skin. Here's hoping for a successful one :D

shed successful

:crazy02: Hey guys. Update on Jake if you are interested. Well he finally came out of his box this morning so I got him out and he started pushing his nose on my jumper until his skin started shedding. He then proceeded to shed while curling himself round my neck. The shed went well(all in one piece) and he gulped down 2 mice as quick as you like afterwards. So am happy now that i know it was a shedding phase he was in and that it went alright. thanks for your help

That is really strange! Some folks NEVER see their snakes shed and yours used you as its rough surface...erm...well I think that's good :) Congrats.
