I've had my baby corn for about 4 weeks now.
She seems great as far as behavior, so I think she's
perfectly healthy. On the other hand, her eyes are
usually a bright bright red, the other night they were a
dull pink, and i got really excited and realized she must
be shedding.

The next day however, her eyes went back to normal.
and no sign of shedding. I read that 7-10 days is okay
for feeding, the day her eyes went a dull
shade was the 10th day, and i'm worried it had
something to do with lack of food. (either way I plan
to feed it every 7 for now on and not 10)

Anyways she's still active and happy, so I'm not too worried,
but I'd love to know if anyone has any thoughts for me???

Hi Spencer,

Snakes normally shed a couple of days or so after their eyes clear. You'll probably find the shed skin soon.

How much are you feeding her?

One pink every 7 days is just enough to keep her going but I'd recommend that you either offer one pink every four days or two pinks (at one feed) every seven days.

Wow, that makes me feel really guilty, i'm a new snake owner
and I had heard that one pinky at her age up to every 10 days
was okay, but tomorrow morning first thing she's getting 2
pinkies. Thanks so much!!
 
If you have weighing scales, I cannot rate the Munson plan enougth. It is a detailed chart of how much to feed your little one, including how often etc. I use it religiously and am very happy with my snakes progress since being on it. Just do a quick search for it & you should find a link quite quickly. All the best with your new baby. xxJxx
 
When I first starting researching corns I did read somewhere that you could feed a hatchling every 7-10days, but with further research, joining this forum, and purchasing Kathy Loves Corn Snake Manual, most people recommend anywhere between 3-7 days per feed for a hatchling, obviously if you are feeding 2 pinkies then wait a little longer than 3 days. I got my ghost hatchling on 14/08/07, he had fed on 2 pinkies the previous day, I left it 5 days and offered him food, and he wolfed another 2 pinkies down, yesterday, which was another 5 days, I again offered 2 pinkies, which he ate them both without a problem. Obviously I will now monitor his size/weight to make sure he is neither under weight or over weight, but this seems a happy feeding rate with him so far. When your corn is older, reaching adulthood, you can then feed him less often, a large meal, like an adult mouse, every 7-14 days would be sufficient. So I hear!

She was making alot of noise moving around in her
area, so I went and took a look, she is without question
shedding and the site was fantastic.

Thanks to all of you my corn will be properly
fed from this point on!!
