xerxes is my first snake and he's shed for me once before. he's really blue right now and he has been for a while days now (since last Thursday i think) and i was kinda wondering how long it usually took.he's five feet long, not sure on the weight, and about five years old(only had him for a few months).
ive been misting his tank about four/five times daily, the warm/cold sides of the tank are good. for the past three days he's hardly moved at all, he always is wrapped around his hide (on the warm side) and always flinches when i walk by. he hasnt eaten for two and a half weeks and its starting to worry me.
i havent handled him since i noticed he was turning blue and i was just hoping for some advice on what to do.
 
Let him finish shedding.
Clearly he's a big boy and the small fast is nothing to worry about.
It's a lot of skin he's got to slough off you just need to give him some time.
Although my only recommendation, is unless you know your house is an arid desert misting the tank 4/5 times a day seems like over kill.
 
I never bothered to mist. I happened to have a small adjustable humidifier sitting around, and it turned out to be great for keeping the humidity up while Samus is getting ready to shed. Before we turned the heat on for the winter it wasn't necessary.


Just adjust it until the humidity hits what you want. Point it so the output goes mostly up and over the top of the viv. I think it cost about 25 bucks. The little tank of water lasts a day or two.
 
Misting them with water you're already paying for is cheaper for me than using electricity for an appliance and then buying said appliance :shrugs:
 
Well my point was I didn't need to add another appliance to it. In my current living situation I can barely afford the electric bill as is.
 
yeah, i dont think im going to go out and buy a humidifier. i'm still paying off my car so i dont really have much money to spend right now. i think i'll mist him b4 school and b4 i go to bed. does that sound good or should i just mist him once?
 
Just mist him once I'd say.
Too much humidity can also lead to increased risk of Respitory Infection, untill you think there's some reason you need an insane amount of humidity I'd remain on the spartan side of things.
 
And come springtime, ambient relative humidity will likely be plenty high that you won't need to do anything to bump it up.
