I know when I ask this there is no "set" rate but here goes. What is average time between sheds for a yearling weighing around 40 grams eating fuzzies every 6 days? What are other signs of blue/shed besides cloudy eye caps and slightly faded color? irritability? lack of feeding? Thanks!

I don't even THINK about touching my king when he is blue. :grin01:
 
I think he may be starting blue but its hard to tell except for he has been very mellow for first 3 weeks I have had him and last night he did not want handled. I think I will given him a day. He eats tomorrow and I will only handle to put in feed tub then will leave him for 3 days and see if he sheds or it is more obvious blue. Thanks!
 
When snakes are blue, it is usually pretty obvious, although I reckon some more so than others. Here is a shot of my sunglow:

I sorta wish he would look that way all them time, except for the eyes of course. Kind of what they call "ghost" in ball pythons.
 
For sure not looking blue. I'd guess his acting differently is just him being different! How long have you had the little guy?
 
About three weeks and breeder said he shed a week before that. He has had 3 fuzzy meals since and is due to eat tomorrow night. I feed him every 6 days.
 
I'd plan on feeding him tomorrow. My snakes are take a few days to a week of being "about to turn blue/blue/not blue anymore, but getting ready to shed". If yours was in that process, I reckon you'd have noticed something. :grin01:
 
Usually when a snake enters 'the blue' the first thing you will notice are that the eyes are clouded over. Some other signs are more obvious in some snakes than others, but the eyes are pretty standard. They'll be an opaque blue for a day or so and then clear up before the shed. I would plan on feeding since even if he is in the blue, some snakes eat anyways, so you might as well try. Good luck with him. :)
 
I plan to feed him. Maybe he just didn't want messed with last night, simple as that. I am still knew enough to snake owning that I second guess myself often. Been around wild snakes all my life (in fact have at any time dozens of garters in my yard and wifes flower beds) but having ones life in my hands makes things more important. I don't think breeder handled him a bunch so he is still getting used to being held. I usually handle in evening from 3 days after feed to night of next feed about 10-15 mins a time.
 
I have fed my corn once when she was in blue but she didn't like it, tried to escape and was all over the place till the meal was placed right in front. So now I just leave her, plus most times she is in her homemade burrow under the Aspen so I don't like to disturb that.

As soon as she has shed I will feed her and then from their start the cycle again.
 
I think I just stressed him a bit the other night. He has not acted that way since and he was all over his prey tonight like usual. I think I actually figured out what did it too. Like any other snake he would rather not be messed with but tolerates it well. The difference the other night his head was still under aspen when I picked him up. I think the fact that he could not see and smell me was what startled him. Since then I have made sure he is out or I push him to come out before picking him up and he has been fine. He still tries to escape for a second but once picked up he just checks things out. Boy does he ever love the fuzzies. He eats every 6 days but I thought about trying every 5 for awhile (still in the Munson plan guidelines). Anyone else feeding a yearling that weighs around 40 grams every 5 days?
 
I'm feeding mine a small fuzzy every 5 days and she's just 8 months old. I've only done it twice, one time she didn't take it, I guess she was still full up lol.
