Shelves for your tanks?

We're getting ready to move into a bigger apartment and our snakes will now have a room to their own...we're looking for ideas for shelving so we can stack our 20 gal tanks...I looked at walmart and they have some basic metal shelves and I know Rubbermaid makes some as well that will possibly work...I just wanted to see what others are using or if you have some links to places I can look. Thanks for any information :)

some of ours...

Both racks can support 20L sized tanks, or even 3 10g tanks side-by-side-by-side... with the adjustable shelves you could even easily fit a pair of 20T's side by side on each shelf...

got them both at Target for $35-40 (beardie shelf is shorter, and therefore cheaper)

I have just a regular bookcase. It isn't quite deep enough for the tanks, but I put them on their sides so that the screen top is now a front opening slide door. Makes for more room for all of them.

Both those ideas are great! I never would have thought of that! I'm not that good of thinking outside the box lol. I know the pet stores sell those racks desined for it but using the shelves from target or a book case for tanks never would have crossed my mind! Thank you!

For added safety, I use bungee cords to hold the tanks on in case of an earthquake. Probably not a problem where you live, but here.......

I bought some unfinished pine shelves from Target for ~$35, and then I painted them. The shelves are fairly deep and adjustable so they work well. Plus you can buy several and connect them.
Meg, I've seen pictures of your shelves and I couldn't figure out how you found a bookcase deep enough for your tanks! It looks like you had me fooled! :p Cool idea!

i have the same shelves as The Nothing. they're awesome. they hold a good amount of weight and the shelves are really easy to adjust. and Target has them on sale often. i got the 4 shelf one for $25 a few weeks ago.

I have those same shelves! I just got them and set them up today! They are awesome! I have a 20 long on top with my new Ball Python in that and then three 10 gallons with 05 corns. I am getting another 20 long soon for Mowgli, she is getting huge! The tanks fit perfect on there! Here is a picture!

very cool! my shelves have the smaller 10 gals on them and totes with all the critters supplies in them. i have an old TV stand thats holding my 29 gal that is Blaze's home. he's growing fast...just shed today and i was able to measure him. he's around 20".

That is too kool. I have the same exact shelves in my room and my wife and I were recently disccusing wether or not they could support 3 20g L tanks (although i just got my first corn 3 weeks ago, im already planning on more). :crazy02:

I got one! I decided to give it a try so today I went and got one from Target. Works really well and now I have room on my dresser for stuff! :D Thanks for the tip!

Cycal, the box says it can support 300 lbs on each shelf. It's all good!

Do you think these Target shelves would be big enough to hold 30g longs? I tried looking for them on the Target website but didn't see them listed....

hmmm... whats the length of a 30L?
these shelves, iirc, are 48"
if the tank is more than that, it should be able to fit between the posts and hang off a bit...

I'm heading out the door so can't measure, but I think the 30L's are 37". Have to check when I get back, thanks.

i have a feeling that target is going to wonder why their shelves and rubbermaids are selling so well.......

when i went to target the last time i picked up a few rubbermaids along with the shelves. the cashier commented on how great the boxes are and how well they would fit on the shelves. i said (without thinking how strange it may sound to her) "yeah my snakes will love them. i'll put them in there when i feed them and they wont escape! and these shelves are perfect for my tanks." she gave me the strangest look...so i said "i also will use some of them for storing stuff". sometimes i just say stuff about my snakes without realizing how strange i must sound to them....

I went and got those shelves last week and like the pics here, I have an extra shelf :) The only way to fit the 30L in is catty-corner so I left him on the antique Trunk. I have two 20L on the middle shelves and use the top for storing supplies in antique produce crates with odds and ends on the bottom. I'm going back next weekend to get a couple more for the spare room and some sterlite containers for any future purchases. I'm going to research the company and see if they have a larger version that will hold the 30L (36 1/4").

we went to target and go ourselves some shelves... only fits three tanks and one more top shelf for odds and ends.. and we have a spare shelf in the closet. i guess it is good because we only had three tanks that needed to be stacked... guess we cant get another one.lol
