Although "she" has yet to be named. My reverse okeetee arrived a few hours ago. She was left on my porch in a box marked "perishables" in 30 temps without the Fedex man so much as tapping on my door and letting me know she was here. Luckily, I knew he was going to do that so I was standing on the other side waiting for him.

Anyway, she is in her new home now. I have a few 'is this normal' observations. The photo was of course not taken with flash.

She isnt hiding and she is alot more active then Id thought shed be. I think shes gone from one side of the tank to the other 50 times. I figured she would go in her hide, or beneath the aspen, and I wouldnt see her for a while, instead she is sitting on top of the hide staring right at me.

The other thing is, of course when I walk over to the tank she backs off and scurries to the back, I expected that.... but when I walk away, or sit down at the computer I notice she is trying to escape. I thought maybe she was just investigating her new home, but shes not, shes extending to the top lid (she makes it about half way up before she tips over) and trying to push on the sides of the tank. Anyway my question is, is that just a 'Im in a new place, I dont know whats happening and I want to get out of here' thing?

With the exception of filling up her water bowl, I havent put my hands in there. I was pleased when i did she just watched me and I didnt get bit though.

She's beautiful!! My son has the same type of snake. She is four years old and very sweet.
Yes, this is normal beahvior. I would put something on top of the lid of the tank if you don't have any type of cage locks in place. What type of tank are you using?
How many hides do you have in place? You should have at least one on the warm side and one on the cool side.
She sounds like a curious little snakey. You can start handling her after about a week. Just remember to make slow smooth movements when you reach in for her. Be sure to support her with both hands as you take her out so she feels safe and secure. Hold her for a few minutes each day and increase the time as she tolerates it. We did that with Markey for the first month I believe and she settled right down. Now she will "hang out" with Parker when he watches tv. She'll curl up around my neck for long periods, too.
Have fun!
Congrats!

It's normal for them to explore their new home and search for an escape. She'll probably settle down eventually and hide like they normally do =)

I don't think a flash would really bother her, mine don't even seem to notice it.

Very nice looking snake. It looks more like a plain amel then a RO to me.

But anyways congrats on the new snake.

She's a cute one. And yes, Clyde was the same way. I think it took about a week before he decided that there was nothing worth exploring and there was no way out. Now he only does that when I've just fed him; otherwise he stays pretty buried.

Congratulations on the new snake, and I'm glad you were ready for her arrival.

This is my old fish tank, its a standard 20, not a long one, but i figured itd be ok for now until she gets bigger. I dont have any thing on top of the tank, but I have the screen lid on with one clip on each side (4). I think its pretty locked down because I have trouble getting it off. If I had branches in there shed be able to make it to the top and push on the lid, for now shes just pushing on the glass. I think when I handle her, itll be in the tank the first few times.....I get the impression she is very quick and is going to scram. So far shes drank water, went in the hide, came out, sat there, looked at me and yawned LOL.....

She does have the thick white circles around her red blotches, they go all the way to her tail and get thicker down there.

So much for that activeness, she went into her hide about 8 last night and I havent seen her since LOL....

She's acting just like a cornsnake!

Now the hard part, leaving her alone for a few days to start to feel at home.
