Should I be concerned about this by-law?

It's a local by-law from my municipality's website specifically banning 'all snakes of the families Pythonadas and Boas'.

Obviously this wouldn't effect corn snakes, but aren't Ball Pythons Pythonidae? It's ridiculously to me that they'd inadvertently ban one of the most commonly kept snakes.

To be honest, I don't think it'll stop me. :)

I'm a rebel.

I guess that means no hognose snakes either...

And yes Ball pythons do belong to the banned group.

ya, they're trying to do the same thing in BC (the BC SPCA made a submission to the Ministry of Environment to ban lots of stuff, pythons and boas included) I can't see your link for some reason, so I have no idea if it's the similar.

There are lots of people fighting the proposed ban in BC, maybe some of the letters we've written can help you. I can send you some links if you're interested.

unless they come around checking or if your renting your landlord sees them I doubt you'll have an issue being a rebel. Best of luck to both of you.

Sincerely,
Your neighbor to the south

well, yes, individually no one here is worried here either. In fact, existing pythons and boas would just be granfathered in. But it deprives every generation after from legally keeping these snakes. Sure, lots of people will do so illegally. But they shouldn't have to, and there will be many more who won't think it worth the hassle to keep an illegal animal. Vet care alone becomes quite an issue.

So I say, fight.
