Should you continue to handle a snake post bite?

So my 3.5 yr old has been a bit aggressive lately and after reading through here I feel that his temp may be slightly off despite the digital thermostat and that I just don't handle him as much as I used to (really only before feeding).

So I plant to just nut up and handle him after I cool the tank off a bit. I am a bit skiddish of the bites as they startle me but I know they don't hurt so I am just going to deal with it as calmly as possible.

My question is:
Once he bites (usually draws a little blood), should I continue to handle him?

I know that if it were a dog you wouldn't want to reward and sort of bad behavior by giving them what they want but I know my 3ft corn and 95lb doberman operate a bit differently. :)

Yes, as long as the bite is not too terrible (aka bloody mess) then just continue with handling.

Few questions:
Are you using a hook to get him out?

What are your temps like now?

How are you measuring them and what is your heat source?

I'd wager getting the temps in a normal range will do wonders for his mood.

I have a digital thermo with a probe connected to once of those under the tank pads. It never feels overly warm when I touch it so i suspect that the thermo isn't too far off. The pad covers less than half the tank.

We do have him a new spot by the window but it doesn't get direct sunlight. I can't imagine his air temperature reaches over 75-78max.

I don't use a hook as I've never had reason to in the past.

Thanks for the info about the bite. I wasn't sure if they were motivated by blood.

Hooks are wonderful tools. They make removal from the cage easier and it's much less scary for the snake. Gently touch them with a hook, then guide them up with it to your hand with it. It's a very easy way to get a grumpy snake moving around without a bite.

I have a few cage aggressive snakes that will readily strike a hand, but they are tame as kittens when I guide them out with a hook.

Most pet stores (petsmart and such) carry a small hook, that is the right size for corn snakes.

What are you regulating the heat pad with?

It should be at 85 max for the warm side, and that would almost feel cool to the touch since our bodies run 98 or so.
