I just changed around my set up and redid some of the snake habits and was going to take a picture tonight and put it on the board, but the digital camera crapped out on me. It won't keep the picture, it takes it but before it is completely processed it stops and says picture deleted. But I am still interested in all of your setups and will buy another camera tomorrow and post some pics. So how about we start it off tonight and lets see some pics of your setups for your corns?

Well I have posted this picture before....but I'll do it again ;) here is my little hatchlings tank.

This is my enclosure awaiting the arrival on my new baby as soon as the weather warms up. I got a new thermostat and am in the process of tweaking the temperatures right now.

It's sparse I know, but that's because I got "yelled" at by the breeder I bought my first one from. I had too much stuff in it and was told I was spoiling him too much :D

Actually, I had problems feeding my first corn and worked with my breeder, who was wonderful, to right the ship. We both decided to go back to the basics...which is what you see now.

Regards,
Steve

91 might a bit too warm...and heating the viv with lamps might dry it out...creating problems with shedding etc.

Good morning Kvlt and Meg!!!

No, those are not both heat lamps. The one on the left is a ceramic heat emitter, the one on the right is a 9W compact florescent bulb set to a 12-hour on, 12-hour off cycle.

I agree 91 degrees is a tad warm but right now I am just trying to calibrate my new thermostat. I am trying a couple of different configurations at the moment.

However, I keep going back and forth on this because I hear leaders in the industry state that they run unregulated UTH's and regulate the UTH by how much aspen they put over it. They also suggest that to all of their customers. On the other hand you have many folks state they should put their UTH's on a thermostat and set the temperature to the mid 80’s. It’s been my experience that this one topic is probably the single most difficult to get a consistent answer on in our hobby. Soooooo, I will put the probe to my thermostat on the glass and set it to around 88-88.5 degrees with the hopes that the mid to top layers of substrate will be in the mid 80’s. More experimentation is needed at this point.

I also agree, and it has been my experience, that ceramic heat emitters will certainly dry out the air within the viv. With a full water bowl I can get my humidity up in the 30% ranges but plan on adding at moist hide during times of shed.

The reason for the ceramic heat emitter, and Kvlt living in South Dakota you can appreciate this, is I have a hard time keeping the ambient air temperature of my viv warm enough. The viv is on the lower, cooler level of my house, and in the winter that temperature is usually 66-68 degrees during the day falling to 64 at night. With my first snake, I experienced one regurge in short time I had him and he subsequently didn't make it.

No animals were harmed in the setting up of my viv……. :D

I certainly do appreciate all of the comments.

Regards,
Steve

regulating with substrate

Now I realize that I am a total newbie here, however, I will just share what I have seen and experience on my own. One of my corns will go into his hide and be a good little boy, the other one loves to go into the hide and shove all of the substrate out or at least against the side so it can lay directly on the glass. Maybe this isn't a common thing and I just have a really stupid snake  , but based on just these two, I would say you need to be careful trying to regulate heat based on the amount of substrate you put above the UTH. You might be getting 85 on top of it, but if the snake decides to burrow, or does like mine, you could get pretty high temps against the glass.

These are my 2 larger vivs which i have wall mounted so that my son cant mess with them, on top i also have my two hatchling tubs. I have bought two of all the decorations and made them exactly the same so when i am able to breed them, when i move one from one viv to the next hopefully the snakes wont realise to much and not get as stressed.

nice setup plissken...did you make those yourself?

Thanks :) No, I bought them at a local herp store. The wooden ones came flatpacked. I vowed never again to buy a flatpack viv though, because they were a nightmare to set up. The doors on the bottom viv collapsed three hours after we'd set it up... luckily there was no animal in it at the time... :eek1:
