Ok this may sound like a silly question but today when I got my snake out he defecated om me and the sofa. This is the second time it has happened and it took a while to clean up the mess. What do you guys do to avoid this slightly annoying situation, obviously I want to keep handling him. :sidestep:
 
The only sure way to avoid this is to wait to handle your snake until you see (and remove) fresh poop in the cage. They will give you approximately 2 seconds warning before pooping tho by lifting the tail and the vent becomes more noticeable.

It is not uncommon to be pooped on at some stage. The added movement (no pun intended) from being handled will kick the "must poop" urge into a higher gear. The added stress from being handled will have an affect also. Keep in mind that corns are pretty low on the food chain and this may be nothing more than a defence mechanism of sorts also. The extra movement from being handled is the most likely cause however.
 
snakes often poop when you take them out of there viv (home) because they like to keep there 'home' clean so when you take it out it might poop, so i does not have to do it in it's 'home'

Really? They like to keep their home clean? I've kept corns for a long time, and I haven't seen any trends that support the existence of this motive.
 
from what i have experienced and by word of mouth, yes this is right!
i may have been mis-informed but then again im entitled to my opinion and i think this is right!

Roy Roy Roy, open your eyes buddy, mine all sweep, dust and wash their cages every week ............................ no wait, ....... that's me ......... oh well , maybe I just have 30+ lazy snakes LOL :rolleyes: :crazy02:
 
ok,ok,ok fair do's they still poop in there tank i never said they didnt but, think about it in the wild if they poop i doubt they would stay near where they did it because of predators and things being able to smell it, so IMO it makes sense that they will probs do it out of there tank so that predators are not attracted to where they are!!!
But if there locked in a tank they have option but to poop in the tank!
 
Mine will poop whenever and wherever the urge takes them! In the water bowl, in their coco tubs, on me!!!! The one place they rarely poop in in their hide (except for the coco tubs).
 
personally, mine likes the carpet. I'll get him out and let him crawl around for a minute or so, then when he looks like he's concentrating too hard on something, I'll slide a paper towel or something under him and hit the deck. Makes it easier to spot clean!
 
My normal will poop in the corner of his viv farthest away from his favorite hide every single time. I feel like he is trying to keep his house clean lol. The rest will poop anywhere and crawl right through it, they don't care.
 
Mine manage on a regular basis to leave poo on the inside of their hides - generally when I'm away and it has time to bake on :puke01: They also like to crap in their water dish and THEN go for a swim. Doesn't exactly support the idea of caring where they poop IMO :rolleyes:
 
I guess we are fortunate. Since we added a "rock bed" to her viv Ivory seems to poo almost exclusively in the rocks. Makes it real nice to clean too, simply remove the rocks and give them a nice bath!
 
I STILL have yet to see any snake poop. ANYWHERE. We've had him for near a month, with regular handling.

We usually take Nix outside after she's all digested, that way if you see it coming, its on the patio and not the carpet. Not that it would really matter, we have cats to ruin the carpet! lol

I would just get a can of resolve and nick name the snake "poopers" lol
