Sitting in the Waterdish

Our cornsnake is around 15 months old and 3' long. For the last 6 hours he has been sitting in his waterdish wich we have never seen him do before. The temp in the cool spot is down to 70. I am not sure what the temp is under the nite lamp or by the pad.

I am just worried that something is wrong since we have never seen him do this before and am looking for some advice or comments.

Its normal for them to relax in the water bowl =) Treasure never started doing it till he was a year old, but Hunter is always in there =)

I have two Corns that will never go near the waterbowl, only to drink of course. And one needs a daily bath, I see him at least one time a day relaxing in the waterbowl and he soaks there for a long time. Don't worry about it. Maybe your snake is going to shed soon? Some snakes love it to soak before shedding.

I would suspect it is trying to make it self comfortable, self thermal regulation.. Just for intrest though, are there dark little specks laying at the bottom of the bowl??

Regards

Do mites usually occur even if you only have one snake? I've always assumed it was just a problem for those with several snakes.

My amel started doing the same thing. He didn't have mites, he just felt like bathing. He hadn't done it in the 2 1/2 years I've had him, and suddenly he did. Even after eating....it was weird. As quickly as he started though, he stopped. They just do weird things!

Good question! I'm not sure! But I would think that it would be a problem for all owners and not for the amount of snakes you own. Just more of a pain for multiple snakes. I would also think the handler would bring them in for the outside more than anything.
