Mice! They taste so nice!
I've got a nice productive set of breeders at the moment, a patched brown and white male, a patched female and two pink-eyed white females. The pink-eyed whites are offspring from my first pair (Snakebait and Feeder) I'm just about to grow on a new set because I've got fed up with the variable quality in the shops I get frozen feeders from.
I cull out at the size I need, and can't help but notice how much chubbier and healthy my mice are than the ones I generally buy. I took this comparison shot, as I've been struck by the difference.
I haven't got any bigger home-bred peaches/crawlers in the freezer at the moment because I used them up, so I'm waiting to pick out my new breeders and cull the rest of the babies in a fewdays

Great looking feeders, once I started breeding my own I realized how nasty the ones that come from the stores are.

Couldn't agree with you more! I just wish I wasn't so afraid of them to let them grow to adults and be able to avoid buying f/t for Tiaga.. :)

Definately

Definately a nice group of feeders there. Crazy though... I was SOOO unaware of how quick those things grew in just a matter of days. Unreal.

Also the pet store thing... egh, around here I get pretty decent feeders from my local "Critters and creatures", but I guess it depends on where you live, cause I've heard horror stories about other places that don't really care for their colonies well.

Anyway though thanks for the post and information. Learn something new every day.

Wow, Janine, you've really taken off with this whole thing. If I recall correctly, you got started on this simply to offer Lil live pinks? Seems like some real good has come out of that.

Very apt names, btw.

Well Sean, comparing the eggs I get from my friend with the ponies when her hens are laying with any I've bought in shops, there's no comparison in taste. I've had Lil refuse shop-bought mice and take a home-bred one when I've defrosted both types, so it looks like the best way to go.
I've been wondering if it helps that my mice are kept on the same chopped straw substrate as the snakes, instead of pine sawdust?
